A peek inside!

An info card (printed on the back of one of the recipe cards) revealed August’s theme: “Candle Artisan Recipe Box”. It listed this month’s featured oils, along with any included extras. It also provided a few safety tips for each oil/blend.

A note from Katie — recipe formulator & certified aromatherapist — revealed a bit more about this month’s theme.

August’s recipes provided clear instructions for whipping up the following:

  • Beeswax Pillar Candle
  • Reading Nook Diffuser Blend
  • Liquid Luck Wax Tarts
  • Twin Twirly Candles
  • Rolled Beeswax Tapered Candle
  • In the Moment Roll-On

A sheet of pre-printed stickers was also included for labeling your creations.

August’s oils included:

  • Fir Needle
  • Blood Orange
  • Supreme Peppermint
  • Liquid Luck

Simply Earth Fir Needle Essential Oil

I was a bit surprised to see — what I would equate to — a more “wintery” oil in an August box, but I’m NOT complaining. Summer is completely overrated if you ask me, so I’m ready to start embracing all things autumn/winter. Fir Needle essential oil has a crisp evergreen scent and is great for aiding in digestion, supporting joint function, boosting immunity, relaxing muscles, and more.

Every Simply Earth oil is printed with a Simply Pure Promise that ensures that the product has been quality tested and is 100% pure. Ingredients are also clearly printed on every label.

Simply Earth Blood Orange Essential Oil

According to its description on the Simply Earth website, Blood Orange Essential Oil has an aroma that’s less sweet than traditional oranges with a bit of a more herbal/floral scent as well. Aside from smelling fabulous, it has plenty of health benefits including promoting rest, boosting immunity, uplifting your mood, cleansing your skin, supporting joint function, and more.

Simply Earth Peppermint Essential Oil

I’ve been a big fan of Peppermint Essential Oil ever since I read that it helps repel spiders. 😉 Other benefits include aiding digestion, relaxing muscles, soothing skin irritation, easing seasonal discomfort, soothing headaches, and more. You can also add a few drops to water to create a hygienic, breath-freshening mouthwash that also soothes a sore throat and congestion.

Simply Earth Liquid Luck Essential Oil Blend

The only blend of August’s box, “Liquid Luck” contains a warm & spicy combination of orange, cassia, amyris, and ho wood essential oils. It was designed to be uplifting and “help you feel lucky in all of your endeavors”. It’s also great for adding to DIY cleaning supplies and disinfectant sprays.

Beeswax Sheets and Cotton Candle Wicks

A package of 3 beeswax sheets was provided to use in three of this month’s recipes — which will result in making a total of 4 rolled beeswax candles. A long cotton wick (hidden behind the wax sheets above) was also included to trim as needed to fit inside each of the differently sized candles.

3 Leaf Molds

Three teeny tiny leaf-shaped molds were provided to make wax tarts. They can also be used for making small soaps or bath melts. Too cute!!

Here are the recipes that I’ve made so far:

Reading Nook Diffuser Blend

Supplies needed: Peppermint Essential Oil, Liquid Luck Essential Oil Blend, Blood Orange Essential Oil and Fir Needle Essential Oil.

The diffuser recipes are always incredibly easy and simply require me to fill a diffuser with water, then add the specified amount drops of each of the essential oils above. Once added, I just switch on the diffuser and let the aroma fill the room. Couldn’t be any easier!

Beeswax Pillar Candle

Supplies needed: 1 Beeswax Sheet, Wick, 5 drops Liquid Luck Essential Oil Blend, Gloves, and a Cotton Ball.

The first step in making the pillar candle was to lay out a sheet of the beeswax, place the wick across the short side and trim it so it extends the wax by about 1/4 inch.

Next, I dabbed the Liquid Luck Essential Oil onto the wax sheet using a tissue, put the wick in place, and began to slowly roll it up, smoothing out any cracks with my fingers.

My finished pillar candle! 😀

Rolled Beeswax Tapered Candle

Supplies needed: 1 Beeswax Sheet, Wick, 5 drops Peppermint Essential Oil, 10 drops Blood Orange Essential Oil, Gloves, and a Cotton Ball.

Again, the first step was to measure out the wick as shown above.

After adding the indicated essential oils wax sheet, I sloooowly rolled it up with the wick to form the candle.

I carefully smoothed out the seam with my fingers and my candle was complete!

Twin Twirly Candles

Supplies needed: 1 Beeswax Sheet, Wick, 5 drops Fir Needle Essential Oil, Gloves, and a Cotton Ball.

This “recipe” was for two smaller candles, so the instructions had me cutting the final wax sheet in half to form the shapes above.

The process was the same as the others… I measured the wicks, added the essential oil, and rolled each sheet up — making sure to keep the left side even to achieve the round staircase effect.

Mission accomplished! 🙂

Here’s a look at all of the candles together. Now to find some candle holders…
