Sensory TheraPLAY Box September 2017 Subscription Box Review

September 2017 Sensory Theraplay Box review

Sensory TheraPLAY Box is a monthly Subscription Box designed especially for children on the autism spectrum and/or children with sensory processing issues.

Each box will contain an assortment of handpicked sensory toys and items for your child to explore. Items can include putty, textured tactile toys, fidgets, craft activities, light up toys, drawing utensils, and more. All items are hand-selected by Sensory Theraplay Box’s founder, who is an occupational therapist and has experience working with children who have developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, neurological impairments and emotional disturbances. While the boxes are geared towards children 5-9 years old, sensory toys can be enjoyed by kids (and adults!) of all ages.

Disclosure: I received this box for review purposes. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. Post may contain affiliate and/or referral links.

Subscriptions are $39.95/month, or less with multi-month commitments. — For a limited time, you can save 10% on your first box with coupon code “WELCOME“!

Let’s see what’s in my September 2017 Sensory TheraPLAY Box!

An info card listed all of the items in September’s box, along with why they were chosen and how to use them to strengthen your child’s sensory skills.

discovery putty

Fun and Function Discovery Putty Transportation Station

This putty activity was chosen to help your child strengthen their hands and work on their fine motor skills. To play, you simply hide the 12 little plastic transportation-themed pieces in the bright orange putty and have your child stretch, pull, and manipulate the putty to get all of the pieces out. The putty itself is professional quality and 100% free from casein, gluten, soy, & latex.

Big Bites Crocodile

As soon as my girls saw this crocodile puppet, they were immediately fighting over who got to play with it first. In other words, it was a hit. 😉 Like the putty above, this guy helps your child strengthen their fine motor skills as well as coordination & development of scissor skills (opening and closing his mouth).

Spirograph travel set

Spirograph Travel Set

Despite growing up in the 80’s, I’ve never owned — or even used — a Spirograph. Welp, better late than never! 😉 This travel-sized version comes with a built-in design ring, 6 precision wheels, 2 design pens, and a 24-page design pad/guide. It was chosen to help kids work on their visual & spacial perception skills, as well as fine motor control, visual motor, and bilateral skills.

Desk Buddy ruler

Desk Buddy

This multi-textured ruler was specially designed for children who are constantly looking for different textures to touch or ‘fidget’ with. It’s constructed from an FDA-approved, naturally bacterial resistant material and is even safe to chew on if the need was to arise. It’s practical for use both at home & in a classroom setting and its 100% dishwasher safe.

smiley face puffer ball yo-yo

Smiley Face Puffer Ball Yo-Yo

A simple, silly toy to play and fidget with. Just loop the end of the cord around your finger and let it bounce away.

Create a Story Cards

Eeboo Create A Story Cards

An award-winning story telling game that allows children to make up their own fairy tales using a set of colorful character & prop cards. These cards are great for working on sequencing, vocabulary development, narrative, and comprehension. They also work well for non-verbal children, as they allow them to tell a story without needing to use actual words.

porcupine ball pencil topper

Porcupine Ball Pencil Topper

The final item was a small “porcupine ball pencil topper” that children can place over the end of a pencil to provide tactile stimulation during academic tasks.

I was really impressed with my first Sensory TheraPLAY Box experience! While my girls don’t personally need OT help (they did have speech and PT until recently), they nevertheless enjoyed all of the items in September’s box. There was a fun mix of items and the info card provided lots of helpful information as to why they were chosen and how to best utilize them. Overall, an ideal subscription box for kiddos with (or without!) sensory issues. 🙂 — Remember, for a limited time you can save 10% on your first box with coupon code “WELCOME“!
