The featured project for March/April was DIY Bath Fizzies! Complete step-by-step instructions were provided, along with helpful tips and photos.

There was also a small insert that gave a little more info about some of the materials sourced for this month’s craft.

bath bomb ingredients

Bath Fizz Mix

A package of all important “bath fizz mix” was to serve as the main component of the bath fizzies. It included a blend of baking soda, salt, coconut oil, grape seed oil, and other natural ingredients.

Citric Acid and Rosebuds & Petals

A packet of citric acid was to be mixed with the bath fizz blend, while dried rosebuds & petals would be used for decoration when forming the actual bath fizzie.

hibiscus powder

Hibiscus Powder

To avoid the use of artificial coloring, hibiscus powder was provided to give the fizzies a subtle pink/purple-y hue.

Cellophane Bag, Twist Tie, Plastic Gloves, Cookie Cutter

Plastic gloves were to be worn while handling the citric acid (it can sting if you have any open cuts), while the heart-shaped cookie cutter was to be used to form the shape of your completed fizzies. A cellophane bag and twist tie were included to hold your finished creations or gift to a friend.

Pumi Bar

Mr. Pumice Pumi Bar

This was just a little bonus item to use in the tub while enjoying your new bath fizzies. 🙂

The first step was to incorporate the bath fizzy mix with the citric acid, followed by your preferred amount of hibiscus powder. Of course I went all in and dumped the whole packet into the mix.

I stirred the powders together with a fork until everything was a light shade of pink.

Next, I added water — one teaspoon at a time — until the mixture reached a “wet sand like” consistency and could be packed together well.

The instructions had me place a small amount of rosebuds/petals inside the cookie cutter, followed by the mixture. It also suggested having a second layer of rosebuds inside of the fizzy, but I decided against it to lessen the amount of “floaties” I’d have in the tub. 😉

After waiting the required 15 minutes, I carefully popped the heart out of the mold. The color had changed a bit, but the info sheet stated that it’s normal due to the nature of the hibiscus “dye”.

I’m not sure if I waited too long or what, but when I went to scoop more of the mix out of my bowl to make more fizzies, it was already rock-hard. 🙁 Ah well, at least I got one!

Here’s what the finished product looked like the next day. Not quite as purple/pink, but it held its shape well and I love the pretty rosebud/petal decoration.

And here it is all wrapped up, awaiting my next bath. 🙂

While I was a little sad that I was only to make one bath fizzy, I still enjoyed the March/April The Hippie Hobby box. I love bath products (especially bombs/fizzies), so it was fun to make my own. 🙂 —  Remember, if you’d like to subscribe you can save $7 on your first box (making it just $16.95) when you use coupon code “ROSEBUD7” at checkout!
