After my recent success at Nottingham Young Creative's Award 2014 (read about it here), I decided to dig through all of the poems that I have written. Pretty much everything I have written since having my own laptop is stored on my Google Drive and honestly, yes, I think I would die of embarrassment if anyone was to find them all, but I thought I would share with you a poem that I wrote about my experience of my first young/naive Love.
With Everything But You
I Fell in love with waking up.
The lazy haze,
and your handsome gaze.
I fell in love with lunch.
Fresh juice in a grimy mug,
and your gorgeous smile looking at me, all smug.
I fell in love with the outdoors.
Smoky clouds of cancerous exhale,
and your pursed lips, beguiling, yet stale.
I fell in love with company.
Cuddles between fresh bed sheets,
and your pale flesh shielding your heart that is often offbeat.
Daytime television and duvet days,
and your engaged eyes and your strange ways.
But despite the perfection of your face,
the softness in your voice,
and your delicate touch.
I could never fall in love with you.
