Nissan has announced that Testing on the new GT3 racer for 2018 is underway. The new edition will replace the existing GT-R next season.
The latest GT3, which has kept the nomenclature of the original GT-R GT3 NISMO – first raced in 2011 and raced at Fuji in April with the team’s development drivers Michael Krumm and Masataka Yanagida taking shifts behind the wheel.
They were joined on the two-day test by Mitsunori Takaboshi, who is racing a GT-R NISMO in the GT300 class of the Super GT Series with NDDP Racing. He also competed at the Blancpain GT Series with the RJN squad in 2016.
Krumm said: “It was amazing how all the systems worked so well right from the beginning and the potential for making further improvements is very high.
“As this car will be used worldwide by a variety of drivers with different styles, I want to work hard to ensure that it is possible to drive it safely at high speeds.”
There is set to be further tests in both Asia and Europe before Nissan Starts to make customer deliveries ahead of the 2018 season.
No technical details have yet been released about the car.
