The days are getting longer and I find myself covered in more and more hair each time I groom. It’s shedding season. I wanted to share some of my favorite shedding tools in my grooming box. I love seeing long winter coats transform into short, sleek and shiny summer coats.
I have a couple pairs of these HandsOn grooming gloves. They are made with horses, dogs and cats in mind. I love them for grooming Fira because they gently massage while removing hair and dirt. As an added bonus, they keep your hands and nails clean. I’m usually always ruining my nails when I do barn chores so it’s nice that these keep my hands clean.
Here are the gloves in the middle of a grooming session. As you can see, they pick up dirt, hair and shavings. Grab them in your favorite color!

Other popular favorites for shedding include EquiGroomer’s deshedding tool. It comes in a variety of colors and with a comfortable handle. I also have and love StripHair’s gentle groomer. The rubber tool is perfect for horses that might have thin or sensitive skin. SleekEZ is another deshedding tool available in 3 sizes for all your favorite pets. I grew up with a version of the NRTFE shedding blade. These are great for horses and ponies that really put on a thick, winter coat. I have many memories of a hair covered barn aisle thanks to this tool. Stainless steel curry combs are also a classic shape found in my grooming box.
