ISG to Refurb London Office on Archeological Site

ISG’s visualisation of the extension which will provide an NIA of 65 000 sq ft.

International construction company ISG has been granted a £22.7 million project to redevelop Walsingham House, a 1930s Office building located on a conservation site close to Fenchurch Street station.

The location is steeped in history dating back to Roman times: the building itself stands opposite the 13th century Grade 1 listed St Olave’s Church. ISG’s project is exciting developers and historians alike; the extension will coincide with an archeological investigation in which experts hope to uncover Roman remains, as well as structural features from the 13th-17th centuries.

ISG plan to retain the buildings’ popular Portland Stone facade whilst meticulously demolishing the interior structure to add a steel frame which will enable two floors to be added, in turn creating 50 per cent more office space.

In terms of fit out and design, the facade will be restored in keeping with the Art Deco style, a spacious reception area will be created on the ground floor and the new floors will boast curtain walling and contemporary Portland stone cladding to compliment the exterior.

Matt Blowers, ISG’s MD of UK Fit Out and UK Construction South, explains: “As prime office locations continue to attract high rental yields, property owners are increasingly looking at all options to increase capacity and provide modern layouts to maximise portfolio yields.”
