Sustainable journey has been an issue I’ve been interested in for some time now and through G.A.P Adventures, the sponsor of the grand prize for our soon to be launched Travel Story Contest, I could learn more about the main topic of sustainable tourism.

Danielle Weiss, a former trip leader for G.A.P, is now their Sustainable Tourism Coordinator. Learn further on our related essay – Click here: travel website awards. I asked her a bit about herself and her link with the adventure and eco-travel industry while I was quizzing Danielle about ecological travel issues obviously. As she started to tell me more about her background, I realized that I had a very interesting person there in front of me, who has lived, worked, studied and offered in a variety of foreign nations. For sure, I needed to learn more about Danielle and her background.

Danielle completed a degree in environmental studies at the University of Waterloo and all through her school years she traveled to Guatemala and Costa Rica. In her third year of studies she visited Ecuador for two semesters. During the first semester she worked on academic studies, while during the second semester she offered in a coastal jungle project where she offered environmental knowledge to local children, got involved in a tree-planting program and worked in a women’s program.

That year in Ecuador truly changed her life – Danielle came back someone different. The most striking experience was that she’d developed a powerful distaste for the materialism that is therefore commonplace in our western societies. A key storage for Danielle was achieving a family group who’d wandered for four days through the jungle with a sick baby to try to reach medical facilities. Unfortuitously the family did not reach the hospital over time and the baby died. Pictures like these designed Danielle’s realization how hard life is for a lot of people and how lucky we are really.

Danielle may tell us how hard it had been to come back to Toronto and not remarkably she went back to Latin America not much later. Over a period of several years, Danielle lived, worked and offered in numerous places in Latin America and fell in love with the countries, the language and the people. She will share stories of success where she literally survived on about a dollar per day. Throughout one of her stays in Latin America she linked up with G.A.P Adventures and fundamentally become one of their trip leaders. In the forthcoming interview, Danielle may tell us more about her travel experience and her experience as a tour leader, repeatedly on the highway for 12-months. To-day, Danielle is back in Toronto, and after various jobs at the head-office, she has become G.A.P’s Sustainable Tourism Coordinator. Through her work Danielle is important in a number of Latin American communities and shows how private firms and individuals could lend a hand to people in need..for more details visit http://indiatourismawards.in
