CBN governor Mr. Godwin Emefiele has extended the Deadline for the old Naira Notes, after speaking with journalist on Sunday morning, ” I have got the approval for extension from the president Muhammadu Buhari”
Mr. Emefiele announced the new deadline is now 10th of February and no longer former 31st of January, he said. According to the CBN governor, the deadline was extended because there was scarcity of the new Naira notes in the country.
After the redesign of THE NEW NAIRA BANKNOTES THAT WAS UNVEILED in the last October, the redesign of 200, 500 and 1000 notes and gave a deadline of January 31st for the use of the old notes. However the new notes is not yet circulated in the country, and this calls for the extension.
Mr. Emefiele spoke in Daura, Kastina state after a meeting with the president who is in his home state for an official duties. Mr. Emefiele said Nigerians who are yet to change their old naira notes to the new notes now have the opportunity to do so now.
The CBN governor continued saying, Nigerians must utilize this opportunity because there wont be another extension.
