After falling to the Milwaukee Bucks by a score of 124-115 on Sunday night, Walker is going to be signed, as the Dallas Mavericks experienced dropped to 9-10 on the season and an abysmal 1-7 on the road. They sit as the 11th seed in the Western Conference and with the season nearly a quarter of the way gone, the Mavericks plan on adding to their roster

According to NBA correspondent Marc Stein, also according to Shams Charania of the Atlantic, the Mavericks plan to sign Walker, a four time NBA All-star. To make room on the roster, Dallas would waive Facundo Campazzo. The 31-years-old from Argentina has played in eight games, everaging only 1.3 points in 6.5 minutes of action per contest. He averaged 5.5 points in 130 games for the Denver Nuggets in his first two NBA seasons in 2020-22.

WHAT DOES WALKER HAVE LEFT

Walker last played a season ago when he averaged 11.6 points, 3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in 37 appearance with the new New York knocks. The scoring output was the lowest of his career and nearly eight points per game less than in 2020-21 while the Boston Celtics.

The 32-years-old guard was among the best in the NBA and was an All-Star from 2017 through 2020. Walker has averaged at least 20 points per game five times and is averaging 19.5 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game during his career.

He began his NBA career with the Charlotte Hornets and played there for eight years before inking a deal with the Boston Celtics in 2018.

HOW WALKER FITS IN

The Mavericks start Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie in the backcourt. Doncic is having a career season, averaging 33.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 8.4 assists per game. Dinwiddie is second on the team in scoring at 17.1 points and 4.9 assists per game. Josh Green has seen the third-most action in the backcourt, averaging 6.5 points in 19.5 minutes per game. Walker will see time backing up both Doncic and Dinwiddie and could reduce Green’s playing time. Perhaps the Mavericks will go with a three-guard look with Walker, Doncic, and Dinwiddie on the court at the same time. While fans shouldn’t expect the All-Star version of him, he should have plenty left to give the Mavericks a much-needed boost.
