The 2025 Audi Activesphere Concept, the most recent in a succession of “Sphere” ideas, is a crossover vehicle with an off-road focus and a roofline that resembles a coupe. The interior is the standout feature, replacing screens with augmented reality for all of the vehicle’s operations, including entertainment, temperature, and navigation.

The split tailgate on the 2025 Audi Activesphere Concept, which allows the rear glass to swing forward to transform the cargo compartment into an uncovered bed for transporting bikes and other items, is another fascinating feature.

By blending a sloping, car-like roofline with a distinctly SUV-like stance and ride height, the 2025 Audi Activesphere Concept blurs the distinctions between automobile sectors. The Activesphere is the fourth of Audi’s “Sphere” concept cars, following the Skysphere roadster, Grandsphere sedan, and Urbansphere minivan. It is a cleanly shaped crossover that promotes an active lifestyle and showcases cutting-edge technology that Audi plans to use in the next decades.

The Activesphere, like its hypothetical counterparts, is electric and is built on the PPE platform that will also support Porsche’s electric Macan and the future A6 e-tron.

The vehicle has a range of almost 370 miles thanks to a 100.0-kWh battery, and the front and rear electric motors produce a combined 436 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, PPE adds 800-volt electrical design, enabling the battery to provide around 186 miles of range at 270 kW in 10 minutes. Additionally, according to Audi, the battery can move from 5 to 80% in less than 25 minutes.

The 2025 Audi Activesphere Concept is almost as long as an Audi Q8 with a gas engine, but it is 3.0 inches wider, 4.0 inches shorter in height, and has a 1.0-inch shorter wheelbase. The idea has 22-inch wheels covered in 285/55 tires that are made to handle a range of terrains, air suspension, and adjustable dampers. The wheels include dynamic aero, which opens up for cooling while off-roading and closes for improved efficiency when on pavement. Traditional sideview mirrors are replaced with cameras to save drag and increase range.

In order to improve the driver’s ability to see impediments in front of the car, the off-road exploration focus led to a transparent version of the “Singleframe” grille that has decorated Audis for the past 20 years. Glass also makes up the bottom sections of the doors. When leaving the tarmac, the 8.2 inch ride height may rise by 1.6 inches, and according to Audi, the approach angle is a respectable 18.9 degrees while the departure angle is a more adaptable 28.1 degrees.

The “active back” is one of the Activesphere’s coolest features. The lower portion of what is essentially a split tailgate folds down like a pickup truck’s tailgate while the back glass opens forward, transforming the cargo compartment into a tiny bed that can accommodate two bicycles. The interior is kept sealed by a motorized wall behind the back seats, and the top has a ski rack. The Activesphere is the first Audi to include a split tailgate, but the company remained mum on the viability of mass manufacturing.

Inside the Activesphere’s interior, Audi truly experiments. Although there is still a steering wheel and pedals, when autonomous driving is engaged, the physical controls are folded away. The straightforward dashboard, which has an air vent and a full-width sound bar, is dominated by straight lines. The center console offers beverage storage that is both heated and chilled, and the red accent stands out against the black background.

As you may have observed, the Activesphere defies the current trend of enormous touchscreens. That’s because, as a result of the broad usage of augmented reality, the entire interior serves as the screen.

Users of the four headsets that are stored in a console on the top may interact with what the company refers to as the “Audi dimensions.” Similar to how Iron Man works on his suits in the Marvel movies, the system essentially overlays information and controls over what you can see and physically interact with in the actual world.

However, you will need to wear special glasses and undoubtedly lack Robert Downey Jr.’s seamless charm. The augmented reality interface includes features for vehicle status, navigation, and entertainment. The technology detects the user’s eyes and calls up more information if the user focuses on a particular menu or display. With gesture control, a user may manipulate the virtual controls they are viewing exactly like they would a physical control, turning a dial or pressing a button to activate it.
