My August 2020 Beauty Favourites
Wow, it’s monthly beauty favourites time already (Does anyone else feel as if August has flown by in the blink of an eye?). This month has been all about the budget-friendly drugstore products. I’ve been trying out a handful of new drugstore makeup and skincare products lately – a few brand new releases as well as a few that are just new to me – and I’m really excited to have found some absolute gems that I will definitely continue to repurchase.
Drugstore Skincare Favourites August 2020
The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + Hyaluronic Acid
I’ve only recently started to incorporate acids into my skincare routine. You may have already seen my review of The Ordinary AHA + BHA Peeling Solution, which I continue to use once or twice a week, but I’ve also started to apply The Ordinary Lactic Acid in the evening.
After trialling a new nasal tanner product, I’ve become prone to hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Lactic Acid works by targeting an uneven complexion to reduce skin discolouration. It’s no secret that The Ordinary is one of my all-time favourite skincare brands, so it’s only natural that I turn to them by default when there’s something skincare-related on my radar. And as usual, they haven’t failed to amaze me. Their Lactic Acid 10% + HA makes my skin absolutely GLOW come morning and I’ve seen a reduction in the size of my pores, too.
SIMPLE PROTECT N GLOW REST & RESET 72 HOUR HYDRATING GEL
Simple Protect n Glow Rest & Reset 72h Hour Hydrating Gel – A brand new release from Simple skincare and it’s Protect n Glow range, the Rest & Reset 72 Hour Hydrating Gel is meant to be a night cream that works at boosting the skin’s renewal process for a healthy glow and preventing damage caused by pollution. When I picked this up I had no idea that it was a night cream. The packaging is a little blase; maybe I presumed it was a day moisturiser due to its sunny-looking orange and green design? Either way, I use it both day and night.
It’s bouncy gel-like consistency reminds me a little of The Body Shop Bouncy Sleeping Mask. It has a silky soft feel, except it sinks perfectly into the skin rather than sitting on top of it. It leaves the skin feeling so fresh and smooth and it’s an absolute pleasure to follow with makeup – it just blends and sits so well on top of it.
SIMPLE PROTECT N GLOW RADIANCE BOOSTER SPF30
Another pick from the Protect n Glow range is the Radiance Booster with SPF 30. The fact that this is an SPF and an oil really intrigued me. I don’t think I’ve ever come across that before.
Simply just add a few drops into your hands and press into the skin with your palms and fingertips. Naturally, with it being an oil-based product, it immediately makes the skin glow. As it dries down and sinks into the skin, the radiance becomes more natural and healthy-looking. The instructions state that this can be used before or after moisturiser which I also found unique. I apply my Rest & Reset 72 Hour Hydrating Gel moisturiser first and then pop this over the top.

L’oreal True Match Foundation
I recently purchased all three of these products in a 3 for 2 special offer at Boots, with an additional £5 off when you spend £20. I ended up taking home the True Match foundation, concealer and Telescopic mascara for a bargainous £15.98 and every single one of them have made it into my beauty favourites this month.
I won’t go into too much detail about this as I have an in-depth L’oreal True Match foundation review, but this is the first drugstore foundation I have actually loved in over 6 years! Promising to perfectly match skin colour and texture, True Match is a medium buildable coverage foundation with a satin finish. It adds a subtle healthy radiance to the skin while allowing my freckles to peak through, allowing my skin to remain looking like actual skin. A second application gives fuller coverage that’s perfect for evening wear. Whether it’s just a touch of colour and glow that I need, or a heavier more flawless base, this is perfect for anyone looking for a budget-friendly option that rivals the high end market.
L’OREAL TRUE MATCH ‘THE ONE’ CONCEALER
This is the most glowy, blendable concealer I’ve tried in ages. I mostly use this for the under-eye area as it is so creamy and doesn’t crease but also provides good coverage for dark circles or pigmentation. But, for a more natural base, I often skip foundation and use this on my under-eyes and high points such as the bridge of my nose and cheekbones to brighten the area and make my skin look glowy and radiant with just a touch of coverage.
L’OREAL TELESCOPIC MASCARA
L’oreal Telescopic Mascara – I’ve been trying out a handful of drugstore mascaras lately and I thought I found my perfect match in the L’oreal Paradise Ecstatic waterproof mascara, until I was acquainted with L’oreal Telescopic. I’m sure Lily Pebbles has raved about this for years and I’ve been meaning to try it for so long, but this is the most separating, lengthening mascara I have used since my obsession with Maxfactor Masterpiece when I was a teen. Paradise Ecstatic and Telescopic are not particularly comparable since Paradise is all about adding thickness and volume while Telescopic is more natural-looking and defining, but I’m loving the plastic wand applicator that does an amazing job at really combing through those lashes for a longer, fluttery look.
