Directed by Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter) the thirteenth episode drama will focus on the female superhero who suffers from a post-traumatic stress disorder and then wants to hang up her mask and open her own detective agency where she assists other superheroes as well as regular civilians. The upcoming series will mark the first time the character has been shown, although she has previously appeared in the Marvel Heroes video game. Krysten Ritter has been cast into the title role, as announced in December. For the role, the actress beat out Alexandra Daddario Teresa Palmer’s likes Jessica De Gouw and Marin Ireland. A.K.A. Jessica Jones will mark the actress ‘ grittier role while she won t be her first leading TV turn. Most recently she appeared at NBC’s Mission Control which was cancelled last year before she went on air as well as a short-lived ABC’s Don t Trust the B at Apartment 23. She highlighted her dramatic acting skills on the critically acclaimed Breaking Bad with her role as Jesse’s acerbic girlfriend. Now she’s set to show off her action-star chops in darker tone than her blockbuster movies about crime stories [ that’s ] more in the streets than in the clouds. In actor Mike Colter who is set to play Luke Cage, the series finds yet another lead. It is confirmed that Colter, known for his roles on The Following and The Good Wife, will be seen in several A.K.A. Jessica Jones episodes before eventually starring in his own spinoff. As comic fans may know, Cage began as an ex-con who had developed superhuman strength after experiments in prison. As he meets Jones his past memories will dramatically change her in ways she never expected. Former Doctor Who star David Tennant is also expected to play an important part in the show. The actor will portray Kilgrave as an mysterious character from Jessica’s past whose reappearance will have a huge impact on her. The character is speculated to be the main antagonist of the series, although this has yet to be reported officially. Joining the cast, too? HarperDarville will play Malcolm, a Jessica’s neighbor whose life will unexpectedly cross with the private detective’s, according to The Wrap Carrie Ann Moss. Moriarty plays Hope a young girl who becomes Jessica’s business partner. In the meantime Traval will play a New York City Police Department by – the-book detective. No premiere date has yet been set for the show but Netflix recently indicated it plans to release each of the Marvel series one year apart. For Daredevil scheduled to air this year that means that at some point in 2016, A.K.A. Jessica Jones will likely hit the streaming service.
