Newly elected Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has surrendered to the Bungoma police station after days of going into hiding following the murder of a rival’s aide.
“Following our earlier directive, Hon. Didmus Baraza has presented himself to the County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO) Bungoma in relation to the murder of the late Brian Olunga in Kimilili. He is currently helping police with the investigation.” said National Police Service
On Thursday, the MP through his Lawyer John Khaminwa sought High Court orders seeking anticipatory bail pending investigations into the death of Mr. Brian Olunga.

According to the Legislator, the deceased was part of a hit squad deployed at the polling station from Nairobi and was hit by a stray bullet at the time of the incident.
“According to a reliable source, the deceased was part of a hit squad that was deployed from Nairobi and was in fact killed by a stray bullet due to wrangles with his confidants. Mr. Barasa has been branded a murderer without due process being followed thus prejudicing his right to a fair trial.” Read the document filed by his lawyer.
Barasa confirmed the events leading to the incident and a Tuesday search at his offices by police officers in the name of carrying out investigations.
“I understand Mr. Barasa is under distress following allegations that he might have killed a person…The information is incorrect as he was targeted for assassination by a hit squad. I am further informed that upon his arrival at Kimilili DEB Primary School, unknown persons started bashing him thus causing chaos,” said Barasa’s lawyer
His lawyer faulted the police for rushing to arrest his client when they had not even investigated the matter at hand.
