Kenya Power explain blackout during Presidential Debate

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has offered an explanation into the Tuesday’s power blackout experienced in parts of Western Kenya.

Through a statement, KPLC noted that they experienced a system disturbance at the Kisumu-Muhoroni high voltage transmission power that tripped several power circuits.

The effect of the disturbance affected power generation from Muhoroni Gas Turbine Station and Turkwell Hydropwer Station thus the outages in parts of Western, South Nyanza, North Rift, Central Rift and Nairobi North.

“Our system engineers immediately commenced restoration works and normalised power to all areas by 9:07pm. The company regrets any inconvenience caused” Said Kenya Power.

Kenyans who were keenly following the Presidential Debate were angered by the move taking on social media to channel their frustration.
