Court allows EACC to seize Governor Okoth Obado’s assets

The High Court has issued orders allowing Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) to seize assets belonging to Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

The assets which are alleged to have been obtained illegally during his tenure as Migori’s Governor will also see three cars and a rental frozen to pave way for hearing and determination of the case.

In the orders, the Judge further halted any plans to lease or developing the property in question in addition to selling the three vehicles under the ownership of the Migori Governor.

“Pending the hearing and determination of this matter an order his granted that the monthly rental income of Sh143,000 deprived from renting out of the Loresho Ridge House in the joint earning accounts in name of EACC and Mr Obado,” said the High Court Judge

Governor Okoth Obado’s children namely Evelyne Adhiambo, Dan Achola Okoth, Scarlet Susan Okoth and Jerry Zachary Okoth were also barred from selling or transferring ownership of any of the assets in question.

According to EACC, they believe that the assets obtained by the Governor were proceeds of looting from the County’s coffers. The Commission further claimed that allies of the Governor registered companies so as to secure tenders from the county and later channel the revenues to the county boss.
