Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKY)

The Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKY) was launched by, Ministry of Mines, Government of India. The responsibility of the implementation of PMKKKY has been given to the District Mineral Foundation. The scheme is focused on the welfare and development of mining areas and people who live there. It aims to safeguard the livelihood facilities of these people. Moreover, the Government through this scheme plans to extend various benefits related to a mining operation in their areas.

Features

It has been mentioned that 60% of the fund has to be utilized in social welfare activities for the affected people of the affected areas. Health, education, vocational skill, sanitization, and preservation of the environment are some of the welfare activities implemented under this scheme.

Infrastructure developmental projects like road constructions, building bridges, are also done under the PMKKKY scheme. PMKKKY also funds developmental projects on irrigation, an alternate source of energy, and watershed development.

Objective

  1. To improve the livelihoods of people living in areas affected by mining operations.
  2. To make the affected people, beneficiaries of social welfare programs.
  3. To protect the environment.
  4. To develop the affected area with infrastructural support.
  5. To safeguard the rights and benefits of the tribal community in the affected areas.
