• Lucky bamboo stalks are widely available. That means you can just start growing it right away. There is no need to grow it from seed or from cutting. All you need is to place the stalks in pots, in water, or in any container you like. Just be sure that the container is easy to move and manage.
• How long does it take bamboo to grow? It takes about six months for lucky bamboo to reach approximately 19 inches

How to Grow Lucky Bamboo Seeds Indoor or Outdoor

Lucky bamboo, like any other plant, has certain growing conditions that need to be met so it can grow healthy and optimally.

These growing conditions are proper potting media, light, water, temperature, and fertilizer. We will get to each of these conditions.

• Potting media

Lucky bamboo doesn’t demand much when it comes to potting media. A vase filled with an inch of water (this is the minimum, consider adding more) and pebbles for support is enough to allow the plant to grow indefinitely. Lucky bamboo can be planted in soil as well. The ideal soil is well-drained and moist.

• Light

Keep this in mind: lucky bamboo is less tolerant of too much light than too little. Indeed, direct sunlight is not good for this plant. Why? Because the leaves will get scorched by the direct sunlight.

On the other hand, bright and filtered sunlight is good for lucky bamboo. If the green from the plant fades, it needs more light.

• Water

Avoid watering lucky bamboo with tap water. Tap water contains chlorine as well as other chemicals, to which the plant is sensitive.

Water the plant using either distilled or bottled water. Tap water can be used only if you leave it for at least 24 hours so the chlorine evaporates. Changing the water once a week is recommended.

• Temperature

The next growing condition important for the plant is temperature. What kind of temperature suits lucky bamboo best? Well, lucky bamboo likes warmer temperatures.

The ideal temperature for the plant is between 65 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, avoid placing the plant in front of heating vents, air conditioning, or a drafty window.

• Fertilizer

Fertilizing is never a bad idea. After all, it provides the necessary nutrients for the plant. For lucky bamboo, however, fertilizer is not a must although undoubtedly a nice feed for the plant.

One drop of liquid fertilizer is more than enough to feed the plant. If planted in water, fertilizing can be done once every other month.

Common Problems

Identifying the problem is very important. So does knowing common problems that you may face. One of the most common problems is related to water.

Dirty water, chlorinated water, and water that contains bacteria are all deadly for the plant. As such, keep hygiene as much as you can.

Another common problem is the formation of black roots and dead leaves. If you notice your lucky bamboo developing black roots, cut them off immediately.

The same goes for dead leaves as well. Don’t allow any part of the plant to rot as it might introduce bacteria that will kill the plant. Too much light or fertilizer can be a problem as well. You can detect this problem from the leaves.

If the plant’s leaves are yellow, that means it gets too much light or fertilizer. The solution is, of course, to move it to a shadier spot and reduce the amount of fertilizer.
