86th Street Vigil Held to Honor Victims of Uvalde, Texas Mass Shooting

To honor those lost in the Mass Shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, a Wednesday evening vigil was held outside The Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew at 86th and West End Avenue. The event was held from 7:15pm to 8:00pm.

Leaders from throughout the Upper West Side were present, with speakers including Council Member Gale Brewer; St. Paul & St. Andrew’s Rev. Lea Matthews; Rabbis Felicia Sol, J. Rolando Matalon and Shuli Passow from Congregation B’nai Jeshurun; Rabbi Joanna Samuels from the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan; Rev. Michael Piazza from Broadway United Church of Christ; and Dr. Nori Rost from the New York Society of Ethical Culture.

Songs were performed by B’nai Jeshurun’s Ari Priven and St. Paul and St. Andrew’s Robin Bahr-deStefano.

In addition to respecting those lost in this latest tragedy, the vigil was organized in response to the shootings in Buffalo, NY; Laguna Woods, CA; and on the Q train in New York City this past Sunday.
