Join the JCC In Person for Tikkun Leil Shavuot June 4-5!

Since 2004, the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan has celebrated the Jewish holiday of Shavuot with The Paul Feig z”l Tikkun Leil Shavuot, opening its doors to thousands of people for a free night of study, music, celebration, conversation, deep thought…and cheesecake. After two years of virtual celebration, the JCC is thrilled to host the Tikkun in person again! Celebrate all night long, from 10 pm on Saturday, June 4, to 5 am on Sunday, June 5.

Over 70 sessions will be available during this all-night event. Drop in  for one session or spend the whole night! Highlights include a klezmer tribute to Fiddler on the Roof; performances by Basya Schechter and Daniel Ori, Israeli songwriter and poet Rachel Shapira, and Galeet Dardashti; a special track sponsored by the World Zionist Organization on redefining Zionism, conversations with Elisha Weisel, UJA CEO Eric Goldstein, and JCC CEO Rabbi Joanna Samuels; wine tastings; a live podcast recording; and movement workshops like Israeli dancing and silent disco. Other presenters include JCC Social Justice Activist in Residence Ruth Messinger, The Forward Editor-in-Chief Jodi Rudoren, New York City Council Member Gale A. Brewer, Consul General of Israel in New York Asaf Zamir, and many more.

This year’s programs cover a range of topics appealing to audiences of all backgrounds, and include dynamic and sophisticated explorations of contemporary issues such as the war in Ukraine, abortion rights, Zionism, race and racism in NYC, Jews in pop culture, spirituality and the Talmud, conversion, and dozens more. The lineup includes partnerships with local synagogues and national organizations like The Forward, the World Zionist Organization, Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, Romemu, Shamir Collective, Tshuvah Center, MusicTalks, JAFI, and Moishe House Lower Manhattan.

For the first time, the Tikkun will begin on the JCC rooftop with Havdalah, Shabbat’s closing ritual, at 9:15 pm. This beautiful ritual will be led by JCC Ceo Rabbi Joanna Samuels and is open to all.

Shavuot commemorates G-d’s revelation of the Torah to the Jews on Mount Sinai. Today, many Jews around the world celebrate this holiday by staying up all night and studying Torah. Tikkun honors the memory of Paul Feig z”l, who died in a car accident in 1998. Paul was the brother of long-time JCC board member and current board chair, Jeff Feig.

The JCC invites you to stay an hour, two, or all night long for this UWS Shavuot celebration. Come for the revelation, stay for the cheesecake! No registration necessary; proof of full vaccination (via NYS Excelsior Pass, NYC COVID Safe app, or vaccination card) and photo ID required for entrance.
