Love And Relationships:What We Wish We Knew

What is love? Why do some have it and some can’t seem to figure it out? Man, I don’t know. But, in honor of Valentine’s Day, I decided to do a round-up post about Love and relationships! I don’t know any love “experts” to ask but I do know a lot of people who have opinions! So, I asked some of my friends (and one husband) this question.

What would you tell your younger self about love and/or relationships?

And this is what they said!

Candy, mom to 1, wife to Sean, blogger at Geek Mamas

Christina – mom to 2, girlfriend to Eric, Overwriting Oversight Analyst

“Choose someone who you can talk to and who enjoys spending time with you.
Don’t waste time on good looking guys you are too afraid to talk to.
If a guy breaks plans, he is not a man of his word.
Don’t choose a guy who makes jokes at your expense or who jokes around all the time.”

Alicia – mom to 4, wife to Aaron, Biology teacher

“Do not ever get married. If I had known this when younger I’d be in a way better place now! I’ve been telling my kids already to not get married!

Brian – father to 4, lucky husband to Emily, retail store manager

“When you find the one, all the angst and heartbreak are reduced to absolute trivia.”

David – partner to Wade, Systems Analyst

“Find a love that compliments your strengths and weeknesses, a love you miss dearly when you’re apart, but confident in the distance at the same time, a love that will be your friend for life.

Paige – mom to 3, wife to Jay, stay-at-home mom

“Relax. You picked good.”

Lindsey – fiance’ to Sarah, Addiction and Behavioral Health Counselor

“Don’t be scared or ashamed. Love happens when it should and no reason to rush it.”

Ray – dad to 3, husband to Bill, Director of Administration

“They are no where near as much fun as they seem on TV. Lol.”

Jay – dad to 3, husband to Paige, Technology Officer

“Love a person for who they are, not their looks, and your love life will be full and wonderful.”

Kai – dad to 2, husband to Amba

“Remember, I always think of others before I think of myself. This is not always healthy & at times I literally forget myself. My needs are valid too. Don’t forget yourself. Having yourself gives your partner more to love.”

And as for me, I would tell my younger self to relax and enjoy the moments. Don’t worry that you won’t find the one. It’s not the kind of thing that you can force. It happens when it’s gonna happen so might as well have some fun in the meantime.

Well, there you have it!

So, what would you tell your younger selves? Tell me in the comments!
