Every year we count down the days to when that first truckload of Colorado peaches is going to be delivered to our area. There is really nothing better than a fresh, sweet peach enjoyed right out of the box or masterfully made into a homemade Cobbler.
Move over Georgia, Colorado peaches HAVE YOU BEAT!
I love peach desserts, and now that peaches are coming into season, it’s time to start cranking out the Slow Cooker Peach Crisp and this Old-Fashioned Peach Cobbler!
My grandmother and mom were a couple of the BEST home cooks. It didn’t matter if fresh peaches were available because they’d simply open a can of peaches. No matter what they used their cobbler was simply scrumptious!!! EVERY time!
There is just something heartwarming about a homemade peach cobbler with a dollop of ice cream or whipped cream, don’t you agree!?!? This is the perfect summer dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients Needed For Old-Fashioned Peach Cobbler
- Peaches – canned or fresh peaches will be yummy in this recipe
- Butter – unsalted butter is optimal in cobblers so you can control the amount of salt in your baked dish
- Flour – all-purpose or self-rising are good choices for cobblers
- Baking Powder – helps increase the volume and lighten the texture
- Vanilla Extract – enhances the flavors in the cobbler
- Cinnamon – ground cinnamon and cinnamon powder are exactly the same flavor except the texture is a little different
- Nutmeg – best if used freshly ground

How To Make A Homemade Old-Fashioned Peach Cobbler
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Place butter in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Melt butter in the oven
In a large mixing bowl. whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Pour the flour/sugar mixture over melted butter.
Spoon the peaches and juice over the dry mixture.
Prepare the topping mixture by stirring together sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Evenly sprinkle the topping mixture over the peaches.
Bake the cobbler for 30 – 35 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
Serve warm, topped with ice cream, if desired.

You will know the cobbler is done when the filling around the sides is bubbly and the top crust is golden brown.

No, cobbler does not have a bottom crust. A Cobbler has a fruit bottom and the top consists of a cake-like mixture.
How do you thicken peach cobbler?
If your peaches are too runny, your cobbler will have a soupy top. To thicken up your mixture, add 1 – 2 tbsp to the peach mixture before baking.
Can you make the cobbler the night before?
Yes, you absolutely can. You can reheat it when ready to serve if you like it warm.
Is it ok to leave the old-fashioned peach cobbler out overnight?
Technically yes you can unless it has a dairy frosting of some type or is egg/custard-based. You do not have to refrigerate baked goods but my personal preference would be to refrigerate them.
How do you store leftover peach cobbler?
A good rule of thumb whether you choose to refrigerate or store at room temperature is to cover with plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container to keep the cobbler fresh longer.
What is the difference between a cobbler and a crisp?
Cobbler is topped with a thick dropped biscuit or pie dough type topping whereas the topping of a crisp is a layer of crisp and crunchy ingredients.

This peach cobbler couldn't be easier to make, and it tastes like the perfect bite of summer!
- 20 oz can peaches, sliced
- 1 stick butter
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmet
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In the oven, melt the butter in a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, milk and vanilla together until well combined.
- Pour the dry mixture over the melted butter.
- Spoon in the peaches and juice.
- . To make the topping, combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle over the peaches.
- Bake for 30 - 35 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Serve warm with ice cream, if desired.
If using fresh peaches:
- Peel, core and slice 5 peaches
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
Add to saucepan and cook on medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Then follow the recipe as printed.
