While March 2 is Dr. Seuss Day and Read Across America Day, I personally feel like Dr. Seuss's books are important – and fun enough – to read and celebrate all year long!

My kids and I still love them and have fun reading them! And we love to enjoy a quick and easy Dr. Seuss-themed snack with our story.

Up until this year, I haven't published any Dr. Seuss-inspired snacks or activities. This year, on the other hand, I've gone a little ‘crazy' and shared with you 1 Fish 2 Fish Rice Krispy Treats and Truffula Trees.

And now…DIY Dr. Seuss Hats in honor of The Cat in the Hat!

Step 3

Place the non-chocolate coated end down on parchment and let air dry 10-15 min. Once the first end is hardened, dip the other side in the red candy melts.

Step 4

Place wet chocolate-coated side directly onto chocolate sandwich cookie and allow to dry/harden completely.

Recipe Tips and Notes

Attempting to dip both sides of chocolate at the same time for these DIY Dr. Seuss hat snacks, worked but was far messier than allowing the candy coating to dry on one end first.

Attempting to dip and allow it to dry on the chocolate cookie, then flipping it over to coat the top of the “hat” was also not a great success.

While jumbo marshmallows will fit on the top of the chocolate sandwich cookie, the large marshmallows resemble more of a hat.

Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat Snack Variations

I've seen lots of different ways to do this type of snack. Here are a few ideas when you want to change it up.

  • large marshmallow for the head, alternating banana and strawberry slices for the hat
  • oreo for the hat base with layers of sliced strawberries and whipped cream
  • white chocolate candy melts and Lifesaver gummies

These versions are great when you want a change or you plan to eat them right away.

Personally, I love my version the most because it can sit through a school celebration without melting all over the place or turning brown! And it's really the EASIEST to make!
