Well, Fiverr has become one of the latest craze among freelancers all around the world they are choosing it over Upwork as it offers a wider variety of tasks/gigs that they can perform. Freelancers are moving to Fiverr as it is considered a “Relatively Easy” option to get Freelance work. Yes, I am getting to it – What is Fiverr about?
However, from time to time people ask me whether or not Fiverr is worth the time and energy of someone living in Jamaica? Can Jamaicans really make enough money on Fiverr so they can quit their nine to five job? Is it worth it for Jamaicans to dedicate their time working on Fiverr?
First and foremost, let me tell you this upfront, freelancing is not an easy career choice, but it’s still one of the best, it take a lot of effort to be successful on Fiverr. However, it also takes a lot of effort to be successful on any other freelance platform, or going it solo as a freelancer.
Having used Fiverr as a Freelancer I am in a position to answer that so let us find out the answers to these questions and much more in this Fiverr Review.
A Brief Overview of Fiverr: What is Fiverr About?
Fiverr was first launched on February 1, 2010, and its headquarters are in Tel Aviv, Israel. Fiverr is available in several languages including English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch.
It is a global online marketplace offering tasks and services, beginning at a cost of $5 per job. The site is primarily used by freelancers and small business owners who use Fiverr to offer services to customers on a global scale. A service offered on Fiverr is called a Gig.
The service is offered by the Seller (freelancer), and bought by the buyer (employer) five dollars is the popular starting price for offers on Fiverr. Buyers pay Fiverr for orders in advance.
Sellers keep 80% of each Gig they sell and successfully complete and deliver. For example, each $5 Gig you sell and successfully deliver, accredits your account with a net revenue of $4.
The platform allows entrepreneurs to discover freelancers by having them come in contact with service sellers in three different levels. This way, they get to meet freelancers with the ideal skill sets and rates who will suit their needs. These seller levels allow businesses to either expand or narrow their searches according to freelancer levels.
What’s good about this crowdsourcing service is its provision of total transparency. Freelancers’ profiles can be accessed, along with their reviews, leaving buyers to decide whether they want to hire them or not. With the system, employers are provided with advanced knowledge on the quality of service they are to receive from a freelancer.
What Is a Fiverr Gig?
Fiverr gigs are the services that are offered by the sellers (freelancers) on the Fiverr website. The gig price varies from $5 to $10,000. Even though most gigs cost only $5 there is usually an upsell for extra and better quality services. Most gigs fall under one of these categories:
- Graphics & Design
- Digital Marketing
- Writing & Translation
- Video & Animation
- Music & Audio
- Programming & Tech
Features of Fiverr: What is Fiverr About?
Products and services offered through the platform are categorized in 12 major groups–graphics and design, writing and translation, music and audio, online marketing, video and animation and advertising, among others. Every category is further broken down into subcategories. Buyers can explore these subcategories or simply search for specific keywords. Although prices start at $5, enhanced services or faster deliveries entail higher prices.
A Boon for Freelancers/Sellers
Many freelancers have been switching to Fiverr owing to the low fee it charges, which makes hunting for freelance work a lot easier. Virtually anyone can sell on the platform, which does not require any complex technical know how. Freelancers who have a knack for being creative can earn money using Fiverr. Another good thing is that freelancers actually get paid for doing what they love to do, making work a lot more fun. They also get to have more exposure as buyers search for them and not the other way around.
Transparent Freelancer Information
On Fiverr, employers are able to see all the necessary information about a freelancer. These include ratings, feedback, number of jobs or gigs completed, and cancellation incidents. This offers confidence to buyers, knowing the kind of worker they are potentially collaborating with.
Filtered Seller Search
Fiverr has three seller levels, aside from the new seller level. These are freelancers who have varying job completion statuses and ratings. They come with different prices as well, depending on their skill levels and performance reviews. This allows employers to find the right freelancer who fits their requirements and their budget.
Secure Personal Details
When entrepreneurs hire freelancers on Fiverr, their personal details are kept protected. The platform only gives out information that assists sellers in learning more about their potential employer. Furthermore, the service does not share anybody’s details, be they buyer or seller, with any third party. Everyone’s privacy is protected, allowing them to conduct transactions with peace of mind.
Protected Buyer Payments
All financial transactions happen on Fiverr. Regardless of the payment method, the platform assures users that their financial data are safe from prying eyes. This gives them the assurance that their information does not get compromised. Payments can be made through PayPal, credit cards or other forms of electronic payments.
During the hiring and the collaboration process, Fiverr provides avenues for buyer and sellers to communicate effectively and privately. Both parties can chat in a secure platform to ensure that project details remain between buyer and seller only.

If you have talents in areas like design work, online marketing, search engine optimization, and copywriting – work that can be done from anywhere and then delivered online, Fiver could be the best starting point for you to become your own boss.
Very like a self-employed person, you have more control of your time, get to work when you want to and with whom you want to work with. Many people quit their 9- 5 job and went full-time on Fiver and some are making good money there.
If you have little experience in freelancing, Fiverr is a good place to start with $5 gigs to test the market. If your gigs have a market there, you can scale them and earn more by offering various side gigs.
What to Consider Before Getting Started on Fiverr
Before you dive into signing up to Fiverr and listing your services, let’s take a look at what to consider before you get started:
- Do you have a talent / skill / product / service that you love doing?
- Are you good at what you do?
- Have you made money with that service or product anywhere else?
- You don’t have to be the best at anything. You simply need to be able to provide quality and value!
- Can you perform or supply it quickly (preferably in 24 hours)?
- Are you willing to perform or supply your talent / skill / product / service for $5, for a temporary period of time?
- Do you have good communication skills?
- Do you make friends easily?
If you can answer yes to most of the above questions, you can be more confident that Fiverr is worth it for you, so take some time looking through Fiverr in the category you would be working in.
Take your time through this part and what you’re looking for is anyone who does what you can do.
Read their gigs and see how they price things, what extras they offer, read their reviews. Then ask yourself, “Would I be happy doing what they’re doing?” and “Can I do what they’re doing?”
Again, if the answer is yes, then you may be able to make money using Fiverr.

How To Sell Your Services on Fiverr?
Start HERE and then click the “Become A Seller” button. This will lead you to a step-by-step walk-through.
You will be required to complete 5 easy steps:
1. Set up your seller’s profile.
2. Create your gig.
3. Add a video introduction (not mandatory).
4. Offer a package (great way to boost your earnings).
5. Offer extras for your gig (helps increase the revenue).
Although only the first 2 steps are mandatory, the last 3 steps will help you generate more traffic and increase your profit.
As a seller, you will need to create your profile. This is how you will display yourself to potential clients and the community so it needs to be professional and there are videos with lots of tips to help you do this.
You will then create your “gig” which is the service that you are selling on the Fiverr platform. The gig is the opportunity for you to showcase your talent and provide buyers with the information they need to help them decide if they want to do business with you.
You will be guided with a step-by-step process on how to set up your gig. This will include the details you need to put in such as:
•Delivery time (how long it takes you to complete a gig)
•A detailed description of your gig
•Photos of your work
•Video (required for Video and Animation category)
•Price for your service (this range is from $5.00 to $995.00)
It is suggested that you create a video for yourself because, as a seller, this is considered the best way to attract a buyer. If your gig is in the “Video and Animation” category, it is required that you create a video. It is optional for all other categories.
When you first join, you are considered to be a ‘New Seller’. Fiverr will monitor your progress monthly as a seller and you have the opportunity to achieve a higher seller level status. In order to do this, you must meet certain criteria in terms of the number of orders you have
completed, your earning level, delivery time and the quality of your work.
If you are the person who has any one of these skills then you enter the Fiverr market place as the seller.
You register with Fiverr, make a profile, say what services you can offer and wait for the orders!
How Can You Make Money on Fiverr?
There are a number of ways you can make money on Fiverr. I will list general principals that can be applied to any niche. If you can’t offer buyers something unique that can create its own demand, then make sure there is already a demand for what you offer.
For example, if you search for “voice overs” you will see that most gigs have some orders in queue, which means that people are interested in this kind of services. Look for services that are high in demand and not offered by many sellers. Set up a gig offering the same thing (obviously, you have to know how to do it well), set a low price and start making money.
Determine how much money you want to make and how much time it will take for you to complete the work. Price yourself right. You don’t want to make $100 by writing 24 articles and selling it for only $5 each. Keep in mind, that you will also spend some time answering buyers questions and redoing the orders.
Optimize your gig the right way. Most people are going to search for a gig using the search bar. Therefore, you want your gig to show up at the top of Fiverr for searchers centered around the services you sell. Look at the similar gigs that are showing up at the top positions right now and see what title, description, keywords and tags they use. Apply it to your listing (don’t copy it but make it similar). Use “Available Now” feature.
You can also make money on Fiverr without actually doing the work yourself. Did you know that there is another marketplace called SEO Clerks which is very similar to Fiverr but with the prices as low as $1? You can sign up for SEO Clerks here If you are a new member you can ask me for a coupon worth of $5 which you can use towards buying your first 5 gigs.
Once you have met these criteria you will be entitled to receive benefits such as being able to offer additional services on top of your regular gig at a price that you set and getting assistance from one of Fiverr’s ‘Success Managers’ to help you grow your business. Once you reach the highest Seller level, of which there are 3, you will be promoted in Fiverrs emails, ads, and other marketing strategies.
At least in the beginning, the only way you have to set yourself apart is to undercut your competition. The markets you’re looking at face heavy competition from developing countries which will make undercutting difficult. It’s hard to show why you’re worth 3-5 times as much as another designer, especially when you are a new seller and they’re an experienced high level seller.
The key is to move up quickly through the Fiverr levels so you can take advantage of all these opportunities and get more visibility on the platform. My advice is to go ahead and open an account, and find gigs that you can do in literally a few minutes. This way you can work up to being a high level seller.
Once you get your Level 2 qualifications you can sell extras and increase the price of your services, and actually make a decent amount from each gig.
Perhaps a bigger benefit (at least initially) is to get paid to sharpen your skills. You can improve your sales, customer service and technical skills massively thanks to Fiverr.
What To Sell On Fiverr?
However, if you realize that you can’t offer any of the services that are popular on Fiverr, then it’s time for you to learn some new skills. Nowadays, you can do it online at practically no cost. I learned a lot of useful SEO, marketing, and design skills that helped me boost my business on one of the largest online learning platforms called Skillshare. If you are not familiar with it yet, I suggest you read this review that also offers a 60-day Skillshare free trial.
Besides SEO and Internet Marketing, you should consider creating gigs in Video category (Video Creation, Video Logo Creation, Video Intro and Outros). It is always high in demand so if you are good at it, you will have plenty of orders. If you decide to do that, check out VideoBlocks review for a website where you can download unlimited high-quality stock footage videos, After Effect Templates and Motion Backgrounds.
How to find more work on Fiverr
Even if you’ve already signed up for Fiverr, there are a few ways to make your profile stand out and attract more work.
1.Create video for your gigs: Gig videos attract Fiverr algorithm and ranks your Gig above other of your competitors that do not have videos. Gig videos also help potential client to know what service are you offering and attract them to buy it from you.
2.Get more favourites & reviews: Buyers on Fiverr tend to go for services that have a high number of quality reviews and favourites. The more favourites or quality reviews you get, the better the service you provide will come across to potential clients.
3.Keep taking on more projects: After a certain amount of time, the volume of jobs that you’ve completed will make your profile stand out more. No one wants to hire a freelancer with only a small amount of projects completed.
4.Scope the competition: Look at what other freelancers are doing on Fiverr and how they are making money. See if you can offer similar services and try to outdo them. Offer more for the same price, lower prices, or put your own creative spin on a popular gig.
There’s lots more you can do to find more work on Fiverr, but these are our main tips.
