Vincent Kompany Testimonial Game – Manchester City FC

On a magical night at the Etihad, Manchester City Legends drew 2-2 with Premier League All Stars XI. Early goals from Martin Petrov and Robbie Keane settled the score before the break, and Robin van Persie’s second-half goal seemed to be enough for the win, but Benjani’s header on the final whistle brought matters level.

However, tonight’s special fixture at the Etihad will be solely remembered for something – or someone – else: Vincent Kompany.

The Belgian was unable to play in his testimonial due to a hamstring injury he picked up at new club R.S.C. Anderlecht, instead taking a managerial role alongside Pep Guardiola. Roberto Martinez and Thiery Henry took charge of the opposing side.

Kompany ended the night as he started, with an emotional farewell. Thanking all the players, managers and staff who were not only involved with tonight, but throughout his entire City career, he promised that he would make a playing return for David Silva’s upcoming testimonial.

But most of all, Vinnie wanted to share his appreciation for his family and the Manchester City fans. The four-time Premier League winner will go down in the history books as a true legend of Manchester City.
