Gilles Simon was his opponent in the next round, and Kyrgios prevailed 6-4, 7-6(5). His serving was a highlight that day as he won a staggering 90% points on his first serve. Kyrgios then went on to beat Yoshihito Nishiko in the round of 16 in straight sets.

Kyrgios beat Norbert Gombos in the quarter-final to progress to the semi-finals. The two youngsters are yet to meet in a professional singles match. Their doubles venture in the Citi Open is the only time they have shared a court. The first singles clash is bound to be an entertaining one.
