ANTIDOTES TO FEAR

Tags: fear
Fear_the overwhelming feeling which keeps humans in a state where they anticipate something negative with a feeling of dread or alarm, has different meanings depending on the situation(s) or individual's(s') perception. For the sake of clarity, we need to give a brief definition of Fear according to a number of dictionaries:
What is fear?
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines fear as "an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger".
The Oxford Dictionary defines fear as the feeling "caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm."
The Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English describes fear as "the feeling you get when you are afraid or worried that something bad is going to happen".
Looking at the above definitions of fear by the various dictionaries, it can be safe to say that fear comes from a place of worry and uncertainty of the future. Simply put, fear is the emotion which kills every feeling of confidence and courage. The absence of courage of what the future holds only leaves the feeling of despair, terror, outrage, anticipation of loss, etc. The list of emotions i just listed, all share one thing in common: which is negativity. Fear is a negative emotion and as such, it dissipates every atom of positivism which lies in our minds.
If we allow it, fear would conquer the mind more than any other emotion could ever do. Fear is very powerful because it works from the inside to bring an outward expression which could mar the potential to set or achieve a goal. I read a saying by Andrew Clements which posits that "fear doesn't need doors and windows. It works from the inside". Following the model put down by Clements, it is impervious to note that fear isn't an emotion which comes from outside but one birthed from the inside. It means that for us to have the feeling of fear, it has to be cultivated from the inside (mind). The product of cultivating fear from the inside is a state of inaction as a result of doubt of what the outcome would be if (or when) we act.
Fear is a negative feeling which produces nothing but negativity. Hence, Usman B. Asif clearly depicted fear as "a darkroom where negatives develop". A simple understanding of what Asif was portraying here would make us see that fear is either a dark feeling which develops negativity or our fear creates a "darkroom" which will be needed to develop the "negative" picture of despair and uncertainty of the future.
Every day we live on this earth, is a constant battle to defeat the challenges life throws at us. The fear to face our challenges and defeat it leaves us with the option of allowing fear defeat us. No wonder Ralph Waldo Emerson once said that "Fear defeats more people than any other one thing in the world." If we carefully examine Emerson's saying, we would notice he points out that "fear defeats more people" which invariably means that fear doesn't defeat everyone. That is to say that there is a fraction of people who have refused to allow fear to defeat them, because they have found ways to defeat fear.
The minute fraction of people who have found the way(s) to overcome fear have done so by imbibing a positive outlook on life and situations surrounding them. I am not saying that we can completely do away with the feeling of fear, but with a positive-minded approach towards life experiences, one can suppress the urge of fear to the barest minimum; which would almost seem as if there is no fear left to feel. Fear is a contagious disease which the positive-minded people have developed strong immunity to. The light in them have outweighed the darkness which fear brings. For the people who have overcome fear, they define fear very differently from what the dictionaries define it as but as what Neale Donald Walsch defines it to be: "FEAR is an acronym in the English language for False Evidence Appearing Real".
There are a lot of antidotes to fear but for the purpose of this writing, we shall be outlining just seven (7) of them which are as follows:
1. Replace anticipation with positive visions
2. Live everyday as it comes and avoid worry of what tomorrow holds. Let tomorrow take care of itself as it has always (naturally) done since the existence of the universe. Be contented with what you have and cherish every second of the life you have now to avoid a state of incessant worrying.
3. Cultivate positivism from the inside to the extent that even in the midst of negative situations, all you see is positive outcomes.
4. Build an adventurous state of mind that makes you see every new day in life as another adventure that needs to be faced squarely and overcome.
5. Since fear keeps us inactive, a sure antidote would be to always act in the face of every challenge we face in life. Staying in that place of inaction is allowing fear to defeat us. But action is our own way of saying "fear i can't allow you to defeat me".
6. Treat fear as a lie (false feeling) and fine tune your mind to only the acceptance of what you want to be true (e.g. accomplishing a task you started, travelling and coming back in one piece, sleeping and waking up the next day, becoming a success a life, etc.).
7. The last but the most important of all the antidotes to fear is having faith in a higher power and yourself. When you have faith in a higher power and yourself, you don't fret at just a little challenge you face because you are rest assured that you will surely overcome it. Your faith in a higher power gives you courage because you feel protected from whatever it is that keeps you in fear.
