How To Work On Habits 101 | GEET SINGH

You have to believe in the power of the word Habit.

Before setting up a new habit you need to understand your why power, why you wanna get into this habit.
You will tend to pick up a new habit or leave an old one only if the Reward is satisfying.

Let's dealt with how to create some new habits and break some old ones.

Cue---Routine---Reward.

If you want to establish an entirely new habit you need to come up with a cue first otherwise you will not know when to act and when you act it changes so much from day to day that the habits don't tend to stick, for instance, it's not enough to say I have to drink water instead keep a glass of water near your desk where you work and this way it reminds you to drink more water and you slowly get into the habit of doing so.

Eventually, you will perform the routine part automatically, however, in the beginning, you are gonna have to work for it a little bit.

Our brain tries to save energy, so to make it work it's best to actually work towards the goal in little advance.
For instance, if you are planning on a run in the morning then it's best to keep your jogging gears ready the night before.

Also, the biggest habit most of us are trying to deal with is healthy eating and leaving the junk out, which let me tell you is not easy at all but one can always try and for that, you can keep some wholesome food handy and that way you don't end up eating junk.

Let's work our way towards the reward now.

That's how human brain works and so identifying a worthy reward is important, something like the happiness you get after writing into your journal or that adrenaline rush after a run and eventually you will crave this reward.
Once you work towards your reward you will see the habit is starting to stick.

How do we break the old habit?

Keep the cue and reward but change the routine.

For instance, do not resist the craving you get after lunch but redirect it, so instead of reaching out for chocolates, keep some apples handy and your favorite spread.
Sure it is not easy at first but eventually, it will become a habit and the whole goal right?

The mantra I shared in today's post is from the book The Power of Habit and you can buy it here.

That's all for this post and do let me know that one habit which you want to adapt and one that you want to break through.

Until Next Time, Don't Forget The Mantra:
CUE---ROUTINE---REWARD
