On February 8, 1855, people living near the River Exe in Devon woke up with a snowdrift, white and untouched. Unwrought by humans, that is to say, because in the snow there were traces similar to those of an ass. But no animal with such traces could have reached what this beast had achieved. The Footsteps seemed to pass through the coves and walls, across the roofs and over the river, and even through the discharge pipes. The locals began to be convinced that the Devil had visited them during the night, in search of sinners, and their souls did not even go out of their houses.
The letter of the condemned to death, which shook everyone in the courtroom
Short stories, but very scary
