Real Madrid center-back Raphael Varane has revealed that Manchester United are interested in signing him next summer. According to recent reports, the French defender has confirmed that the Red Devils have made contact with Los Blancos regarding the possibility of his transfer in the summer.
Varane has been in good form of late at the heart of the Galacticos defense as the La Liga giants look to retain their UEFA Champions League crown going into the final stretch of the season. Real Madrid has conceded 30 goals in 28 league matches and can currently boast the third-best defensive record in the La Liga.

Some sources are also claiming that the reigning European champions would be willing to part ways with their center-back Varane with Mourinho on the lookout for a new defender who he can play alongside Eric Bailey next season. It is being reported that the Manchester outfit would be required to cough up £54m (€60m) if they are to have a chance of landing Varane next summer. The France international has made 32 appearances for Los Blancos this season and has two assists to his name so far.
Manchester United are currently occupying the second place in the Premier League table with a tally of 65 points in 30 league matches. In any other season, Jose Mourinho’s side would be well in contention of winning the league but the record-breaking form of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has seen them fall behind in the race for the league title. The Citizens of Manchester are leading the Premier League by a staggering 16 points with the Red Devils desperately trying to play catch up with their ‘noisy neighbors’.

The addition of a center-back of the caliber of Varane will undoubtedly bolster Jose Mourinho’s defensive options going into the new campaign. The Frenchman is a ball-playing defender who will be a perfect fit for Mourinho’s style of play at Manchester if he ends up making a switch to Old Trafford in the offseason. His talents could significantly help them bridge the gap between themselves and Manchester City in the coming years.
Varane has also represented the French national team 40 times during his career. He will come in with a wealth of experience but it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Varane and whether he ends up making a move to English football in the near future.
