Agatha Raisin and the Busy Body

Our favourite West Country detective, Agatha Raisin and her detective company are back!

IT’S CHRISTMAS!

Only this year, Agatha isn’t feeling the festive spirit and cheer and tries to escape from it all, only to realise that actually going away for Christmas is even worse than staying home! Her little village of Carsely prides itself on its traditional Christmas festivities.

Only this year, there’s a new face in town, although he probably wishes he never went there! Mr John Sunday, an officer with the Cotswold Health and Safety Board, has chosen this year and this Christmas to crack down on what he deems gross misconduct by everyone in the village from grown men and women, to the vicar and even children.

Now the village shop can no longer have wooden shelves;

” in case someone is inflicted with a splinter”

The village school has been ordered to leave the lights on at night;

” to prevent unauthorised intruders from tripping in the dark”

And after passing around toy money in the playground, the children have been issued a stern warning not to play with;

“Counterfeit bank notes”

To top this all off, Mr Sunday rules that no longer can there be a Christmas tree on top of the church tower in case it falls off.

Could this Christmas get any worse?!

Shortly after this, Agatha is sipping a cup of tea whilst in attendance at the Carsely Ladies Society meeting, with the topic of the evening: Mr John Sunday,

A sudden scream alerts the ladies to rush outside of the vicarage building only to find the dead body of Mr Sunday, lying face down…dead.

Never fear, Agatha is on the case. But with such an unpopular victim and so many potential suspects, not only is it impossible to narrow down the suspect pool but it’s almost impossible to know where to start. But this could be one of Aggie’s most dangerous cases for her and for everyone involved…

Multiple murders and attempted murders help make this an action packed novel!

Something I’m noticing with the Agatha Raisin Novels is there’s normally an action packed start, something that makes you want to keep on reading, a middle where the action levels out and some readers may find this a struggle to get through but the endings bounce back with a vengeance, an ending that makes you want more! This book is slightly different to other Agatha Raisin novels I’ve read because there’s more going on eg more murder, more attempted murder, more suspects etc.

(I can’t tell you everything because where would be the fun in that?!)

With only 12 chapters plus an epilogue, they’re short and sweet books, with everything jam packed in there that you could want:

  • Murder
  • Attempted murder
  • Suspects galore
  • Plot twists
  • Jealousy
  • Love
  • And even more!
