IT has been opined that Nigerians have been so starved by the present economic situation in the country to the extent that they can no longer protest against the hike in the prices of essential commodities in the markets but rather forced to resign to fate as is contrary to the democratic tenets.
The opinion was expressed by former Jigawa state Governor, Sule Lamido while in Bauchi when he addressed delegates and other supporters of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State preparatory to the party presidential primaries later in the year declaring that the APC led Federal administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has failed Nigerians woefully.
Sule Lamido who is one of the presidential aspirants of the PDP also said that he is willing to become the President of Nigeria in 2019 because he is the only politician from the North that can defeat President Muhammadu Buhari and restore all rules and values of democracy which have been destroyed by the APC and President Buhari.
He described members of the ruling All Progressives Congress particularly those in the helm of affairs at the federal level as corrupt who he said have deceived and disunited Nigerians along tribal and religious lines.
Sule Lamido further accused the present administrations of being selective in the fight against corruption saying, “if you are in the PDP, they said you are a thief but if you are in the APC you are a saint, what kind of justice is this?, Governor Ortom has spent three years governing Benue State, immediately he dumped the APC, EFCC began investigating his administration.”

He added that, “We are aware that the APC has shielded corrupt personalities that are supporting it because if you are in the APC all your corruption are forgiven, but if you are in the PDP you are a thief, we are in democracy but you are threatening people that you will jail so and so persons, a leader doesn’t threat his subjects but he treats them with justice, compassion and mercy not jail threat and intimidation.”
The presidential aspirant added that “threats cannot change the destiny of whoever God has prepared to become the next president come 2019. I believe in the entrenchment of democracy in the country and that is what I am pursuing.”
While tracing the history of politics in Nigeria from the first Republic down to the present third republic, he said that Nigeria has more credible, trustworthy leaders, like late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Late Sa’adu Zungur, and Mallam Aminu Kano to mention just a few.
He, however, lamented that “but today, APC has brought a campaign of hate speeches, they don’t even want you to mention the legacies of our past, present and future leaders tied down people thinking in one place. You should remember that even your fathers at home are trustworthy they are also Nigerians.”
He further accused the APC led federal government of bringing untold hardships upon Nigerians by introducing what he termed as “anti wellbeing of people policies” contrary to the fake pledges they made during the electioneering campaigns pointing out that, “today there is high cost of living in all aspects of life, after he pledged to end insurgency, reduce the price of petrol and improve people welfare which all turns out to be blatant lies.”
Sule Lamido said that President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC told Nigerians lies prior to the 2015 elections, stating that, “now the people have known better and that will manifest in the 2019 polls.”
He then urged the Bauchi delegates to elect him as the party’s presidential candidate and then prepare to make sacrifice and endure more hardships through threats attack and intimidation that will come from the APC government in their quest to seek for re-election.
The presidential aspirant, however, said that with patience, perseverance, hard work and determination, the PDP will win the 2019 presidential election as well as will win other elective positions in the country.
