Re-Introducing Myself

Last year I introduced Olgelica, but I haven’t re-introduced myself. A lot has changed in the past four years since I started my blog, and sometimes I still can’t believe that it has been so long.

So, hi my name is Gely, I’m a Graphic designer, writer, and part-time daydreamer who loves pancakes. And I like to re-introduce myself with the 20 Get To Know Me tag.

1. What does your name mean?
Haha I had to Google this one Geily in Russian means helium, other Forms are: Geli, Gelii, Gelij, Gely

Derived from the Russian noun гелий (geliy) meaning “helium”. This name was used by Communist parents who were eager to reject traditional names, in reference to all the scientific progress in the Soviet Union. A known bearer of this name was the Russian painter Geliy Korzhev (1925-2012). – Source

2. Are you named after anyone?
I was named after my beautiful aunts Olga and Angelica, combining those two names became Olgelica (Gely).

3. Where are you from?
I was born in Angola and was raised in The Netherlands.

Angola

4. Who did you look up to growing up?
I always looked up at my little brother, he knows what he wants and goes for it. And if he disagrees with you, he will just come out and say it without feeling the need to please you.

5. What are your favorite things about yourself?
I think it’s my will to create something with meaning if it’s a simple poster or just a piece of Writing. I always amaze myself with the outcome if I put my mind to it.

6. Which of your parents are you more like?
I look like both my mom and dad, creative and a little curious about things like my dad. Caring and (sometimes) patients like my mom. But when it comes to appearance I definitely look like my mom.

7. What is your biggest accomplishment?
It’s creating this blog! I can’t believe that after I’m still writing after 5 years. I had some ups and downs, Thinking that it’s no use to keep writing but I’m glad I did.

8. What inspires you?
My inspiration comes from the people around me. They help me see things from a different perspective as they are just doing life.

9. What is your favorite quote

10. What is your favorite song?
There’s no way that I can just choose one so, my favorite songs at the moment are:
H

11. Would you ever consider living abroad?
I would love to live abroad! I’ve been thinking about it but I’m not sure if I’m confident enough to take that step. I’ve been thinking about going to England or Portugal.

12. What is one guilty pleasure you enjoy too much to give up?
Thinking about it makes me laugh but, I enjoy reading to myself and pretend that I’m a spoken word artist. I never realized it but, I have been doing this since I was like 12, I pretended to an actress and read scrips from tv series such as Sonny With A Chance.

13. What is the one item you can’t leave home without?
I never leave the house without my notebook and or black Book. I need my creative space to avoid people when my phone is about to die, or I feel inspired to write.

14. Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Don’t talk to me in the morning, just a simple hello will do but don’t start on a problem I have to fix because half of that information will exit my brain immediately. Just give me an hour or two then everything’s okay.

15. What is the last book you read and what book are you reading at the moment?
The last book I read was Genuine Fraud I think by E. Lockheart, it was a great book but I’m still in love with We Were Liars. At the moment I’m reading The Art Of Thinking Clearly by Rolf Dobelli.

19. What current world events are really troubling to you?
There are a lot of things troubling me, gun violence and human trafficking have been topics that drew my attention. Last year I did a project about the school shootings in America, I’m against the use of guns, and it hurts me deeply that we can defend ourselves with such a deadly weapon. Human trafficking is something that I’ve become more aware of, it has been going on forever, and those people deserve a fair way of living without being bought for hard labor.

20. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because my friend Jaimie said that I should just try and do so. So in 2014, I started my blog named Urban Infinity which was changed in 2018 to Olgelica. The reason I started blogging isn’t just because a friend told me, it’s also because I love to play around with words and create something. It was my way of translating situations in my life in a simple piece of writing, without any rules. It was a safe way for me to say what I wanted to say.

I want to inspire people, write about life, faith and random stuff, I have always loved writing so starting a blog wasn’t a bad idea.

xo, Gely
