The Google Girls Guide: The Healthiest Eats of the Summer

Google Girls Guide to Healthy Summer Eats

Hello, summer! I know all of the Googlers here at Results Driven Marketing have been patiently waiting for the temperature to turn up and for the days to get longer because that means summer is here. With all of the excitement of summer, vacations, no classes, and spending endless hours with your friends can be easy to forget to take care of your mind, body, and soul.

Here are some healthy food tips that will leave you feeling happy and healthy all summer long:

1. Protein-Packed Salads

I know what you are thinking… It’s cutting season, why would I want to indulge in a protein-packed salad? To all of our gym buffs out there, it is plain and simple that protein is necessary in order to keep your muscles happy and healthy. Just because it is cutting season does not mean you can let all that hard work go to waste because you don’t want to get any bigger!

Chicken, almonds, and feta cheese are the Google Girl’s favorite salad topping for that extra protein boost to keep our muscles moving all around Philly! Enjoying a cool, refreshing salad on a hot day is one of the most blissful ways to enjoy a meal.

Do you not have time to make a salad before work? No worries! Crisp Kitchen, Just Salad, and Sweetgreen are located right in Center City and serve their salads up at record speeds.

2. Salmon

Salmon is this Google Girl’s FAVORITE food! Salmon screams summer BBQ’s on the grill with a side of corn on the cob. Salmon is jam-packed with nutrients that help keep the mind and body as healthy as the “all natural” vitamins you are spending $60 on at your local GNC.

The Omega-3 Fatty Acids assist in improving everything from your mood, eyesight, and brain health! Do I need to say more as to why salmon is the best?

Salmon can be enjoyed in the most simple form, yet another reason why it is my summer go to, and I want to eat food after a long day of turning clicks into clients. Baking salmon with olive oil and dash of salt is the perfect simple, summer, salmon dish.

3. Quinoa

Get your carb on, and DON’T feel guilty about it! I’m talking to you, ladies. Quinoa is a light, fluffy, flowering plant that has become one of the hottest fads for people trying to keep their carb intake low and in the healthiest form possible. Compared to the other carbs of the world, quinoa has a very high protein amount for coming from a plant.

One of the best ways to enjoy quinoa in the summer is as a salad, who hosts a wide variety of your favorite vegetables. A light, fresh, colorful salad that is high in protein without actually having any heavy meat in it!

4. Watermelon

Watermelon is what people look forward to the most in summer, plain and simple. There is something so symbolic about slicing open that beautiful green oval and exposing to the world the treasure of pink that lays inside.

One of the top perks of watermelon is that it fills you up with almost no calories! This is a perfect pool or beach snack when you want something light to nibble on.

A fun way to enjoy watermelon in the summer, preferably around 4th of July, is to cut watermelon in the shape of stars. Sprinkle blueberries on top, with a side of low-fat or fat-free whipped cream to dip. A patriotic spin on your fruit intake for the day.

5. Chicken Enchilada Slow Cooker Soup

Slow cooker meals are a must for us girls on the go! You can throw all of your ingredients in the crockpot first thing in the morning before getting ready for work and then come home to the finished product that is dinner. There are many yummy recipes out there, but for summer, this Spanish chicken enchilada soup is a light, yet satisfying meal before you lay out to tan until the sunsets. It will have you feeling like you are on one of the exotic beaches in Mexico!

Our very own CEO and Google Girl, Janeene High, has a subscription to What A Crock, a crockpot meal delivery service that she swears by! Its menu is almost endless and the prices are so reasonable you would be silly not to invest $8 into a delicious dish.

Bonus Summer Health Tip ~You’re Welcome~

Don’t forget to get your fitness on! Eating healthy in the summer is great, but working out is even better because there are so many unique workout options that are only available in the summer. Also, working out and eating healthy go hand in hand so doing one will only help boost the effects of the other in the end.

  • A run to the Philadelphia Museum of Art
  • Yoga at Race Street Pier
  • Take an intense Crossfit Class at CrossFit Rittenhouse
  • Attend one of the most talked about barre classes in the city at Pure Barre
  • Or, simply stroll around the beautiful city of Philadelphia

That’s a Wrap (almost literally)

Summertime is the time to sit back, relax, enjoy a good book, and feed your body good foods. Of course, it is okay to enjoy everything in moderation but if you’re trying to be healthy a week or two before hitting the beach with your buddies, healthy eating and exercising regularly are a major key.
