England coach confirms these 2 Chelsea stars will not be at the World Cup

- Danny Drinwater and Ross Barkley will not go to the World Cup

- Gareth Southgate says both players are struggling with fitness and injuries

- England will play Belgium, Tunisia and Panama in Group G

England national team coach Gareth Southgate has said the the midfield duo of Danny Drinwater and Ross Barkley will miss the party to the Russia 2018 World Cup.

England are set to face Holland and Italy in an international friendly and both players have been omitted from the list because of lack of playing time.

Southgate's snub on Drinkwater and Barkley for his recent squad has hinted that neither are in his plans for the upcoming showpiece tournament.

Southgate said: “Danny's not been in Chelsea's team and we felt with the players we've discussed already - the likes of [Lewis] Cook and [Jack] Wilshere on top of those we've had in those deeper positions - there were other players we wanted to see. Simple as that.

"I think Ross has just not been fit. He went on the back of a long-term injury, quite a serious one, and only had a couple of matches really.

"So I don't think he's available for selection now anyway, so he's unfortunate in the way that has played out in this year in particular.

"But if he can get back playing and playing regularly I'm sure, post-summer...

“It's going to be difficult for him.

“It's going to be difficult for him I think to get the number of games he needs now. But we know he's a talented player."

The Three Lions will take on Holland at the Amsterdam Arena next Friday before hosting Italy at Wembley the following Tuesday.
