Including Amazon and Flipkart, the Drug Controller General Of India (DCGI) has issued a Notice to 20 online sellers for selling drugs without a license. The notice stated the DCGI had forwarded the order to all state and Union Territories in May, then in November 2019, and again on February 3 for necessary actions and compliance.
The notice said ━ “In Spite of the same, you are found to be engaged in such activities without a license. You are hereby asked to show cause within two days from the date of issue of the notice why action call not be taken against you for the sale, stock, or exhibit or offer for the sale or distribution of drugs in contravention of the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and rules made thereunder.”
The notice states that the sale, stock, exhibits or offer for sale & distribution of any drug requires a license from the concerned state licensing authority and the conditions of a license. The DCGI said that, in case of no reply, it would be presumed that the company has nothing to say in the matter and necessary action will be initiated against the companies or online sellers without further notice.

The authorities are still waiting for Amazon’s reply; others did not elicit and reply to the notice.
