When starting a business, it is only natural to consider all the resources that you have available to you. After all, if you’re going to make a success of your enterprise, you need all the help you can get!

One of those resources is your Personal Facebook Profile. You probably already have hundreds of contacts you can leverage to raise awareness of your brand.

But is it a good idea to use your personal Facebook Profile for marketing your business? And if so, how should you go about it? Let’s take a look.

The Difference Between A Business Page And Personal Facebook Profile

Whenever anyone signs up to Facebook, they do so as individuals. The purpose of signing up is to share your social life with other people in your network.

Business pages, however, have a different purpose. Enterprises create these to scale their brands and promote their products. Sometimes, they will even use them to advertise.

Interestingly, Facebook explicitly states that you should not use a personal profile solely for business purposes. So if you’re planning on setting up some kind of brand on the platform, read its terms of service. Make sure that you’re not violating them. If you do, moderators could shut down your account.

So with that out of the way, what else do you need to do to prep your personal Facebook profile for professional activities?

Change Your Profile Setting

The first thing to do is to go to Facebook “settings” in the drop-down menu and adjust security and passwords.

If you’re going to use your Facebook account for business, then it is a good idea to enable two-factor authentication. This option allows you to prevent hackers from breaching your account, even if you know your password.

You can also change how your name, primary email, and phone number appear. Obviously, if you’re using Facebook for business, you’ll want to include your professional contact details.

Make Your Profile Pictures More Professional

The next step is to make your profile pictures are as professional as possible. Remember, you want to create the best first impression you can. Greyscale can work well here.

Update Your Profile With Professional Details

Facebook also allows you to update your professional work and education details in the “about” section. If you take a look at the profile page of Colby Wegman, you can see all of the fields that you need to fill out.

You can also fill out a personal bio up to a character limit that Facebook sets. This field is your opportunity to talk about how your business can help its customers.

Preview Your Profile Page

Lastly, you’ll want to preview your profile page to ensure that it’s suitable for business purposes. Accessing preview mode allows you to see what your site will look like when viewed by the public.

Accessing the view feature is easy. Just go to the menu icon in the lower right corner of your cover photo and then select View As. You can then choose the perspective from which you see your site to check everything is okay.
