Made in India Jeep Compass wins 5 stars in ANCAP crash test

The Made in India Jeep Compass wins 5 stars in ANCAP crash test in Australia. The perfect 5-star rating in the crash test was achieved by the SUV recently in test conducted by the Australian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP). The first India made Jeep Compass was unveiled by the automaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) in June this year from its Ranjangaon manufacturing facility, near Pune in the state of Maharashtra. FCA has started exporting the Jeep Compass for the right hand drive market like Australia and New Zeeland this month. The crash rating is applicable to all the variants of the Jeep Compass manufactured from September 2017. FCA has also plans to introduce the SUV in the UK market soon.

The left hand drive version of the Jeep Compass has also got a 5-star rating when it was crash tested by Euro NCAP in September, 2017.

On safety features, Jeep Compass stands out exceptionally. It comes with 9 airbags which includes dual frontal airbags, side chest and side head-protecting airbags and a driver knee airbag as standard. It has incorporated other safety options like autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and lane support system (LSS). It has also a manual set speed limiter thereby prohibiting the driver to cross a set limit.

The Australian test results reveal that the protection levels for the driver and the front passenger’s head and knee were good where as the chest and lower legs protection have been rated just acceptable. The results of the side impact and whiplash test, the driver’s head, upper body and neck was found to have good protection. The displacement in pedal and steering wheel were found well controlled while passenger’s compartment maintained its shape in the frontal offset test. It was found that all doors remained closed during the crash.

The Jeep Compass is available in Australia in both the petrol and diesel engines. The 2.4 litre petrol engine is naturally aspirated four cylinder unit producing 173 Bhp maximum power and 229 Nm maximum torque. It has the total kerb weight of 1510 kg. It comes with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options. The diesel engine capacity is 2 litre with 170 Bhp-350 Nm torque. The diesel version has 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard and four wheel drive layout.

The Indian variant largely comes with the same structural dimensions and safety features except that it comes with 1.4 litre petrol engine. The diesel variant is the same with 2 litre variant.

The starting price of Jeep Compass in India is Rs. 15.16 laks (ex-showroom Delhi) and is available in ten variants. Its top rival is Mahindra XUV 500 and Hyundai Creta which are available at starting prices of 12.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and 9.29 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively.

The jeep Compass is definitely one of the best SUV in terms of styling, comfort and safety.
