As per the expression from Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Mumbai is bidding out for a chance to host for the Youth Olympic Games 2026 and is interested in applying for its candidature; and has shown interest in Olympic Games 2032.

In a significant move from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis backed by IOA President Narindra Batra and IOC member Nita Ambani, Mumbai has shown interest to IOC President Thomas Bach to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2026 and the 2032 Olympics. This comes after Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach flew to Mumbai on Friday to see sporting projects in the city during a one day trip. Back also took part in meeting children here who are being benefitted by grassroots programme supported by Reliance Foundation and also joined few kids in a five-a-side football tournament.

According to a reliable source, privy to the developments during Dr Bach’s visit, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis “spent six hours with Bach and Mukesh and Nita Ambani on Friday”. Mrs Ambani hosted a gala dinner for Bach and Olympic Council of Asia President Sheikh Ahmed Al-Sabah as well as of Indian Olympic Association were also present at the dinner. The proposed location for the Olympics games is said to be Navi Mumbai where Ambani’s reportedly owns 2,140 hectares of land, which presently remains undeveloped.

The interests shown by Maharashtra government for hosting the maiden games were supported by 2008 Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra saying that it will be ideal to host a multi-sport event in an ecosystem that India has. Responding to the interest, Bach has said, “We have taken note with great appreciation of the intention of IOA to host future Youth Olympics and Summer Olympics. It would be fantastic for Indian athletes to have their Olympics at their home country. It will give a boost to sports in India and develop interest in many young people to take up sports.”
