Relations between India and China are on a tizzy lately, adding to which, China and Pakistan are continuously progressing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that passes through PoK and has been bothering India. Recently, Indian ambassador to China Gautam Bambawale said during a state-run press interview that the differences between India and China over the CPEC should not be swept under the carpet and ignored. With regard to this, China responded today that they are willing to hold talks with India about CPEC and resolve the differences. Chinese Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying said, “I noted the relevant report. Regarding the CPEC, China has repeatedly reiterated our position. As to the differences between China and India, China stands ready to communicate and hold talks with India to seek a proper solution so that these differences will not affect our general national interests. This best serves the interests of the two countries.”

China again claimed that the multi-billion dollar CPEC project passing from Pakistan occupied Kashmir is “merely an economic cooperation” and that it is not targeted to any other third party. Adding to it, Hua said that China hopes India keeps this fact in consideration and then, China will stand ready to strengthen cooperation with India. China also expressed that only one party should not be asked to resolve concerns and both countries should mutually cooperate and understand their responsibilities – for which, both parties should seek solution and manage differences.

Since years, India has been strongly opposing the development of CPEC corridor because it passes through PoK – a sensitive and disputed region on Indo-Pak border, administrated by India. While China has shown readiness to discuss the differences and resolve them, the construction of CPEC network is progressing construction. The construction work is currently ongoing in Pakistan and will then help in connecting China’s Xinjiang province with Pakistan’s Gwadar port in Balochistan.
