Swedish luxury automaker Volvo has launched its new XC60 SUV in India with a starting price tag of Rs 55.9 lakh on Tuesday. Claimed to be the Safest Car Launched in India this year, the Volvo XC60 inherits signature features of its elder sibling XC90 with a conventional premium SUV silhouette.
The new-generation Volvo XC60, which is based on the company’s latest Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform was unveiled in India on Tuesday. The new SUV will replace the older version XC60 which has been on sale in India since 2011. With its segment defining features, modern Scandinavian design and luxury the new-gen Volvo XC60 will make sure to give tough competition to the likes of Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Jaguar F-Pace, and even the upcoming Lexus NX300h. Positioned to give a tough competition, Volvo claims the newly launched XC60 SUV to be the safest car launched in India this year – this can be a grab-on for quite some people.
Older version of XC60 has been one of the most selling models launched by Volvo, not just in India but across the globe. With only betterment on board, the new-generation XC60 is expected to hand a sale of 2,000 units this year, which means a growth of 25 per cent over the last year. Which seems to be coming practically true in future as the updated version is literally a catch. The car is a blend of conventional SUV silhouette inherited from its elder sibling XC90 and the futuristic curves on the rear. The front of the SUV looks oh-so-SUV-aggressive with a huge signature Volvo multi-slat chrome grille and flanked by those elegant LED daytime running lights. While it is balanced out by the sculpted front bumper comes with some subtle lines with, a wide central air-dam and some stylish chrome elements on either side.
Propelled by a 2.0-litre, D5 diesel engine that churns out 235PS of power and a peak torque of 480Nm, the car comes with an eight-speed automatic gearbox with all-wheel drive as standard and there is no manual transmission on offer. The SUV is available only in single powertrain in India but the company is expected to bring petrol options soon. New XC60 gets cooled/ heated front seats with a massage function, which are in fact a segment first offering – a pretty catchy one. Apart from that, the car also offers 9.0-inch centre Sensus touchscreen system, driver assist features as well like – 360-degree camera, semi-automatic parking, blind-spot assist and lane departure warning and radar-based safety features like adaptive cruise control.
Besides a host of passive safety features, it comes with a set of active features like a complete semi-autonomous drive system that includes run-off-road mitigation, autonomous braking and Volvo’s Pilot Assist with a detection system for large animals, cyclists, pedestrians and other big objects. Available in our exterior colour options – black, white, brown and grey – and three interior colour options – amber, maroon brown and blond; the India-assembled car is a pick.
