Dunkirk, a much anticipated war movie directed by Christopher Nolan and starred by Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy and Harry Styles in the lead roles, is breaking English movie records with Rs 15.57 crore gross across 417 screens in India in its opening weekend; despite being not dubbed in Hindi!
The epic action thriller Dunkirk brings the story of Operation Dynamo to the big screen as it unfolds on land, sea and air has hit Indian theatres and is already breaking records with a massive Box Office gross. And it is not that the figures are impressive for a screen count of 400 but also more than substantial, trade experts say, for an American Film that doesn’t exactly fulfill the expectations Indians have from Hollywood movies – action, spectacle and superhero franchises.
The film opens as hundreds of thousands of Allied troops are trapped on the beach. Their backs to the sea, they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.Nolan has created a film that brings this extraordinary event to the screen in a thrilling and uniquely real cinematic experience. Critics and audiences alike agree that Dunkirk must be seen on the biggest possible screen, and we anticipate that the incredible response among audiences across India will drive continued success well into the coming weeks at the Box Office.
After a number of amazing movies from Nolan – Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy, the man is loved in India already. Dabbing multiple genres like from a superhero spectacle like the Batman trilogy to a film set in space (Interstellar) to a concept thriller (Inception). And with a war film genre, he had an almost ready audience waiting to lap up a war film which has not been a preferred genre for a very long time now. The movie is surely an amazing watch, despite being a non-dubbed Hollywood movie and still has a way to go.
