Did Your City Make It To The New 30 Smart Cities Mission List?

Central Government has just released the third batch of 30 Cities which will be transformed and developed into smart city under the Smart City Mission. Find out if your city makes it this time.

Smart City Mission, started back in June 2015 with an endeavour to build better, smarter cities to meet the global standards of urbanisation. The scheme which is well crafted and more importantly it is time bound mission of selecting top 100 cities across the country which could be redeveloped and retrofitted so that they meet the global standards of urban cities. Involving support and resources from both central and state government, 60 cities from previous two batches of Smart City Mission are already under rigorous progress.

Adding up to meet the goal of 100 cities, Indian government has sort-listed 30 cities which will be reformed. Centre was expected to announce 40 cities but the non-participation of Bengal and Mumbai brought the number down and next 10 cities will be filled in, in near future. A total of Rs 57,393 Crore will be spent on these cities for area development, governing services and a balance of technology. Here is the list of 30 new cities to be revamped soon.

The cities are selected on the basis of municipal body of the respective cities which can get qualifying marks during evaluation of their bid for the tag. The list was launched today, on second anniversary of the Smart City Mission and Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala made it to the top, followed by Raipur of Chhattisgarh and the third city to be selected is Rajkot of Gujarat. The new batch covers cities from 20 states but a slight tilt towards Tamil Nadu (4 cities), Gujarat and UP (3 cities each), Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar and Chhattisgarh (2 each). With this, a total of 90 cities will cost an investment of Rs 1,91,155 crore, because getting smart will surely cost you a huge fortune.
