The Heart, The Brain and Love

Tags: love hope brain

He spoke of art and she smiled like Mona Lisa. She spoke of politics and he roared like Winston Churchill. They spoke of philosophy and thought like Sigmond Freud. Their hands closed in and fingers touched like atoms smashing together above Hiroshima and detonating the atom bomb.

“Is this not enough?”

“Is this not enough?” asked the heart to the Brain. ” They are two kindred souls lost in the universe and found through luck through the machinations of none and Hope of many.  Shouldn’t they be together then? The thoughts match. Their souls speak and heart agrees. Why then, O brain do you rationalize? Why do you rationalize what is supposed to be a great unknown unbridled by the chaos of reason and unshackled from the trivial problems of man?”

The heart pleaded.

The brain in its infinite wisdom theorized and didn’t reply.

But still, the two souls continued….

There was hope in the air and sweetness in the words. It was about the unsaid than the said between the two. They spoke of all, everything and nothing. Looking at the din rising from the quiet corner of the world these two were sitting, the universe would have mistaken them for friends. But although friends they were, they were more. They were kindred spirits locked in the throes of Love. Like friends, they spoke of their lives hopes and dreams. Unlike friends, they spoke of their lives together. It was not about my hopes, dreams, and ambitions any longer, but our hopes, dreams, and ambitions. Whilst both spoke in tranquil peace of their lives together, a ferocious battle was raging in between the heart and the brain.

There would be no call to arms.

The heart has never won.

It had fought and lost time and time again.

But this time it was determined.

It did the unthinkable.

It begged.

The brain was the voice of reason. It didn’t believe in poetry. It believed in reason and had ambition. It had reasoned with love before and won. But today, it sensed something different. It felt a push unlike any other. So it spoke:

“Love excites but loosens the goal. For Mankind to win, a human should suffer. Love fills the empty pit of nothingness in man and makes him satisfied. Satisfaction on his life and hope that things stay still and they stay in love. But life is not a constant. It’s an ever moving platform with nothing permanent and all transient. Man is built for a higher purpose. The empty pit of nothingness is what pushes him to greater heights. Fall in love and the satisfaction of the stasis love creates makes him stand still. Man needs to move. Love makes him stands still.”

As I said, the brain knows no poetry. It knows no metaphors. All it knows is Man and the ambition required by every human to push the species known as Homo sapiens forward.

The heart pleaded for Hope, Hope that love would win over man and push his ambition to ever greater heights. The brain never did listen, or understand the reasoning.

But as this happened, Billions loved and millions stayed in love forever.

Love in an imperfect and sometimes cruel way brings two souls together in harmony. Not forever, but for that single moment. In that single moment in the history of the two souls, Love gives a moment, just a moment mind you, of complete tranquility, peace and joy with a hope of forever more. Most souls don’t get it again, but they live their whole lives trying to relive that moment. Isn’t this what the brain wants right? Of man to hope for something bigger and live and work towards it ?

Or is the brain right?

Love fills you up and wants you to maintain the stasis of constant love so much so that we don’t move forward and stay still as a species.

Love wants a Humans happiness whilst the Brain wants humanity’s survival.

This war rages on, and I hope possibly forever.

The heart nor the brain must win.

Whilst some humans find love others push Mankind forward.

But I hope this. Someday humans will love and push Mankind forward.

Till then, broken hearts and shattered souls will roam the earth alongside happiness and Love.
