Seafood/Sushi: Blue Fin, NYC Times Square

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Times Square and in the midst of the adventure stumbled upon a somewhat hidden treaure nestled near a crowded downtown corner.

To my surprise the inside was a beautiful combination of artistic elegance and ship-like sentiment. The accent wall along the oversized staircase yields an oceanic motif, while the overhead sparkling lights give a splash of fun, yet classy glimmer as they reflect upon the solid glass handrail.  The wood walls and the large, round mirrors complete the  nautical decor for this seafood/sushi house.

With two levels of hosting, the space is well equipped to handle large parties for grand celebrations, family events or other get-togethers.  Downstairs you’ll find a large sushi bar and up the suspended staircase you’ll find a full bar and large dining rooms.
“Executive Sushi Chef Boo “Mike” Lim, formerly of the highly regarded Sushi of Gari, and Executive Chef Juan Carlos Ortega, now with BR Guest for two decades, provide menus rich enough in every category without going overboard.” Says John Mariani, Huffington Post

Personally I found their menu to be adequately priced for the quality and service provided. The wine and sake menu was robust, the appetizers were fulfilling and the entree and dessert menus gave plenty of alluring options at reasonable prices.  Items such as the sweet jumbo lump crabmeat atop a fine red snapper and the warm apple crostata with dulce de leche and vanilla ice cream, made my mouth water just reading them on the menu, and even more once served!

Another menu must have, spring rolls! A plate of four rolls, large shrimp and lobster meat, perfectly seasoned and lightly fried in the flaky wrap, served with a sweet dipping sauce and fresh vegetables! (so delicious I had to order a second serving!)

Everything I ordered was extremely fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented.

The sushi sampler was filled with a variety of options. Each piece bursting with a unique flavor, every piece pleasing to the pallet.

Service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere was classy yet comfortable. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to the city.
