Does this make me a unicorn now? – we explore unicorn cosmetics!

This post contains #gifted items

I don’t know whether I should say hi or neighdo unicorns neigh? Anyway! The gorgeous Mel Blue of Unicorn Cosmetics recently sent out the most GORGEOUS package our way to play with and Oh. My. Gosh… we feel mega magical rn.

Unicorn Cosmetics lashes, Voltage pigments & Sassy Doll brush set

My first brush (a-ha, geddit?) with Unicorn Cosmetics was earlier this year after I attended the Beauty By Harl masterclass; she’s an absolute gem btw, and in my bag were the cutest pair of lashes I had ever seen.

Unicorn Cosmetics lashes in styles ‘Bubble Pop’ & ‘Unicorn Flutter’

These UC lashes were in the style ‘Strawberry shortcake’ which has since been discontinued, such sad, much disappoint; I mean UC, if you ever want to re-release these badboys, I’d be chuffed – anyway, what got me most about this particular brand was how easy and effortless it was to apply their lashes.

Lashes used to test me big time

I’d somewhat given up years ago on the idea of wearing falsies. I could never see a thing I was doing because of my poor sight, I could just never get them on comfortably, or straight… However, I soon learned that I was doing it all wrong. Using a lash tool to help me apply them has been an amazing tip and actually executing some patience, allowing the glue to go tacky helped heaps too! The biggest and best tip for me, was never to fully close the eye (again, thanks to Harl for that gem!)

Unicorn Cosmetics, Dragon lashes in styles ‘Blaise’ & ‘Flammie’

So when UC sent me 4 different sets, I was super excited! The 4 sets I had to play with were ‘Bubble pop‘ & ‘Unicorn flutter‘ under the unicorn lashes range and ‘Blaise‘ & ‘Flammie‘ that came under their Dragon lashes range. I was super happy to find that all of these lashes were faux mink!

Whilst each set of lashes have differed in style, they all managed to be comfortable and incredibly easy to apply. When trimming excess off, I noticed there wasn’t any shedding and the band remained massively flexible for effortless application time and time again (even for a newb like me) the only one I slightly struggled with was Blaise as I struggled to see it’s placement through the density of the lash itself. But the quality and everything else remained solid throughout – I’m definitely a fan of Unicorn & Dragon lashes!

Unicorn Cosmetics Voltage neon pigments in ‘Power surge’ & ‘Electro’

Alongside the lashes, I also had chance to try their Voltage neon pigment range in shades ‘Electro’ and ‘Power Surge’. Lemmie just tell y’all, these little guys are poppin’. Literally one tap of my brush into each pot provided enough neon realness to transport me back to the days of Acid music, (Were the lyrics really Eezer Goode?) Brum land may be landlocked, but I definitely felt like it’s own personal lighthouse sporting these! My only downside; and this isn’t mutually exclusive to UC, it’s across the board for any neon pigment, is how easy it is to create a mess with them, so proceed with caution! But daaaaayum, these babies are LIT Y’ALL! For £6.95 (prices correct as of 03/08/2019) they’re definitely worth the coin!

Last, but not least, was the iconic brush set. I actually remember as I first ventured onto Instagram watching UC in the process of designing their now, iconic brush range. I lusted for them, adding them to my Christmas wish lists year after year (remember, forever broke asf, le sigh.)

Unicorn Cosmetics ‘Sassy Doll ‘brush set facial brushes

I’m gonna say it now, these are by far, some of my favourite brushes to work with to date. I. Am. Shook by the quality of these guys! The handles are sculpted insaaaaanely well, the bristles are soft – super soft, and again, cruelty free and vegan – my heart skips a magical beat each time I see that (does this mean a unicorn also gets its wings?)

The sassy doll set comes in a snazzy glittery pink diamond shaped zip case, perfect for porting your brushes about – It’s holo interior fills me with massive joy and the brushes themselves are smooth to touch despite their glittery appearance. They aren’t uncomfortable to handle at all – I will, however, stress that the ends of the brushes are somewhat fragile feeling and bend a little, this is moreso with the thinner ones, but it isn’t a big issue at all for me. These are great quality brushes and they wash out well retaining their shape and colour perfectly.

The whole vibe of UC cosmetics has me hooked! I’m a rainbow junkie, I’ll stare at holo till I’m in a holodaze and glitter? DING DONGGG! You all know me well enough now to know it’s something to win me over with.

Would I recommend them?

Damn did you even read the review? You think imma say no? UC are badboys for lyfe. I’m hooked and now I’m off to find some unicorn dust for highlight, maybe its hidden in the bristles of them brushes…
