Slummy mummy on a shoestring review – Real Techniques Miracle complexion sponge

Hi beauts!

Firstly, I’m massively sorry about my hush hush last week.  Momma bear has been a very poorly one – who knew a UTI could knock you for six with four days worth of fever and not being able to physically do much?! – so as you can gather I wasn’t in the right state of mind to sit and write, mostly due to me not being able to feel my fingers through constant pins and needles! (sob sob feel sorry for me, has it worked yet?)

BUT ANYWAAAAAY  I’m back! and today I’m looking at a tool rather than product (for once!) because, well – I think I needed to talk about it.

So awhile back now (I think just either before or after Christmas) I finally invested in a new Beauty Blender.  I had previously been using my luxe elixir to death, to dob it ‘dog earred’ would be quite the understatement.  Unfortunately I found it tough to hunt down another one and whilst stood in my localnotlocal Boots store I admired the Real Techniques beauty sponge wondering if it was worth the ‘hype’ I had read about.  Eventually I chucked it into my basket, and at £7.99 – prices correct as of 05/04/2017 – I didn’t think I had much to lose really, and I really did need a new beauty blender.

Upon closer inspection the first thing that was totally different to my first blender was the shape.  Whilst maintaining the original cone…thingy…tip bit – blender nipple? – This geezer owned a flat butt (Do some squats love, teehee) and at first I’ll admit I pulled a face but I understood the concept totally.  I also found the sponge to be incredibly soft like… insanely soft.  My previous offering was dense – it bounced off the floor and could probably knock someone out if pelted at high speed, the Real Techniques however was like the Andrex puppy of beauty sponges and I couldn’t decide if I trusted it enough to smash foundation into each nook and cranny of my skin.

It also reminded me of the EDF (I think it’s EDF) energy little critter – but that I found charming, i’m a sucker for cute things.  So I set off to using it in the ‘traditional way’ by dampening it in water.

I hated it.  I literally Hated how much water it could drink up and immediately lose within one squeeze and sat grimacing with each weak pttbbhhhhh it made whilst splatting foundation onto my face.  But its texture was glorious, the finish it left on my skin – stunning.  I didn’t want to give up on this gizmo because of those reasons, so I found myself adapting my routine to suit the blender – and I’ll add with greater results.

I naffed off the water.  It just wasn’t our friend – you know ‘hey water, it’s not you…it’s me, I’m sorry but I think we should just be drinkable friends’ -Instead, going to the technique of dampening LIGHTLY with setting spray and applying my foundation with this method.  My results have been nothing but Amazing with this technique and if i’m honest i’m now converted to this sponge.

We started off just tolerating one another… now we’re getting er,

Where am I going with this? It’s a sponge.

Essentially this sponge is fabulous.  It’s not as dense as one expects (ooh er get me) BUT it works effectively, once adapted to a way that works – for you that is! It’s also far easier to clean in comparison to my luxe elixir due to its more porous nature (those GCSE’s are shining through tonight aren’t they?)

Lets sum it up.  I love this sponge and I need to invest in more ASAP! And now if everyone could kindly purchase me every single one of their brush sets I would be one happy pig in poop!

You can nab yourself the Real Techniques sponge in most places now – I personally purchased mine from Boots stores here.
