The upcoming 2018 Mercedes A-Class has been spotted undergoing road tests. The manufacturer has always been the pace-setter in matters regarding automotive technology putting it ahead of its competitors in the auto market. The forthcoming A-Class model is going to present upgraded features including revised powertrains.
2018 Mercedes A-Class – Exterior Body
Unlike the current generation model, the upcoming 2018 Mercedes A-Class seems to have thinner LED headlights and flagpole-style wing mirrors. The exterior body is not going to change much although you should expect modified bumpers, doors and bonnet thus giving it a new and more modern outlook. We are expecting the new car to be longer and wider compared to its predecessor. This is based on its new GLB SUV platform which provides for a less boxy compared to the old A-Class.
However, the next generation of A–Class comes with an extended wheelbase and a roofline extending further in a more vertically–angled tailgate design. This is in line with the modern designing. The rear doors will also be stretched a bit to give more interior space. We are anticipating for a sportier design, both on the front and rear end. Get ready for a sleeker design with stylish LED headlights and LED rear turn signals. It also gets revised bumpers and front grille.
The hatchback is going to present a slightly larger chassis thus spacious interior cabin. This means an increase in the headroom and legroom as well as luggage room. This is the same layout featured in the E-Class model and is expected to further modernize the new A-Class. The Audi’s Virtual Cockpit dash layout and a freestanding infotainment touchscreen display gives this car a unique cabin styling. Among the standard features include automatic climate control, modern air conditioner, satellite navigation system, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The entertainment system has been overhauled with a premium sound system featuring HD satellite radio, Bluetooth audio connectivity, USB port interface and CD/MP3/MP4 player. Among the safety and driver assistance features include adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, automatic emergency braking system, blind-spot warning system, lane-departure warning system, premium air bags and safety belts.
2018 Mercedes A-Class – Turbocharged Engine and Transmission System
The second-generation A-Class packs a transversely mounted 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine capable of producing 210 horsepower with direct fuel injection. Just like its predecessor, the SUV features a standard front-wheel drive (FWD) hooked to dual-clutch transmission system although there are rumors that the automaker might consider an optional 7-speed automatic gearbox. Unlike the previous model, the 2018 Mercedes A-class sits much closer to the ground. The current model features an extra floor for accommodating batteries for the electric drive system.
2018 Mercedes A-Class – Price and Development
The manufacturer is yet to comment on the official MSRP and release date for the new 2018 Mercedes A-Class. However, there are greater chances that this vehicle will debut towards the end of this year.
