How to Make Thumbnails
A Thumbnail is a receded size version of full photograph, document or screenshot. The advantages of thumbnail pictures are that they take up less space. These are useful for website and for server too and load much faster as compared to original pictures. In this article I will show you step by step guide how to make thumbnail. Follow the guide below.
Select the Picture and Edit
Select the picture you want to make the thumbnail. Open the picture in picture editing program. I am going to use “Adobe Photoshop”. If you want to edit the something in picture and edit it.
Apply Blur
Go to the “Filters” on your toolbar and apply the “Blur” from the drop-down menu. This process will eliminate the graininess to the photograph before it reduced to a thumbnail.
Crop the Photo
Use the cropping tool in your editing program and select the unused area and crop it. This could be empty space or irrelevant part of the picture.
Reduced the Original Picture Size
Go to the re-size menu of your program from the edit drop down menu or toolbar. Most programs will let you choose how you want to re-size either by pixels or percentage. Choose which is best for you.
Increase the Saturation
Saturation is the amount of color. The color stand out better with thumbnail if you increase saturation. Select the color from toolbar and select “saturation” from the drop-down menu.
Sharpening Filter
Go to find “Unsharp mask” in the “Filters” drop-down menu on the toolbar. Apply the “Sharpen” this will bring out artifacts in the thumbnail that might otherwise be missed.
Add a Border
This element is optional, but it will help your thumbnails stand out from the page. Border option found in the toolbar drop-down menu under “Select”. Usually black border is suitable.
Save the Image
The best format to save thumbnail is “JPEG”. Select quality 80% or high. Alternatively you can select “PNG” but it will take more space.
