How to Delete a Locked File

By default, the windows operating system prevents the user from deleting files that are in use. If your computer has unwanted virus and window prevent to deleting it then you can Delete lock file by following below step. Some days before I have same problem with my computer, So I write this article how to delete a locked file. Follow the step below.

End the “explorer.exe” Process

This process is associated with windows explorer and prevents the user from deleting the files that are in use. You can end the process and delete the file using Command prompt. Open the task manager using the “Control,” “Alt,” and “Delete” keys. Click the “Processes” tab and select the one reading “explorer.exe”. Click the “End Process” button.

Find the Files Location in the Command Prompt

To open the command prompts go to the start and type “cmd”. Find the file location by typing the “cd” command as “cd C: \Documents and Settings \My Documents\File name.” Use the directory in which your file is located.

Delete the Locked File

To use this use the “del” command. Type “del filename” uses your filename to delete your desire file.

Restart the Explorer Process

Open the task manager again and click on the “File” and then “New Task”. Type “explorer.exe” into the window and click “OK”. You can also restart your computer.

Delete the File Using Unlocker

Download and Install Unlocker.

Unlocker is free software that allows you to delete the locked files. Download the program and install.

Open the Program

Find the file location in windows explorer. Right click on the file and select the new “Unlocker” option from the context menu that appears. The unlocker application will open and show the locked file.

Delete the Locked File

In the unlocker window, click the “Unblock All” button. This will remove all restrictions on the file. Close the unbloker window and delete the file.
